  1. What? It's Sunday morning. Let me report my weekend experience with D:OS. OK. I have been given a rare 3 day weekend which began Friday. So, Friday morning I decided to browse Steam for a game to buy. Divinity: Original sin caught my eye. I had not been following its development so I spent about an hour researching it. I went to Metacritic. I came here. I looked at youtube etc. Everything pointed to the fact that I should be playing this game. So I bought it off Steam. Then I began playing it. The hours passed. The entire world flew by me. I did not go to bed Friday night. And last night I was planning on watching the Mayweather vs. Maidona II fight on PPV. But I didn't do that either. Instead, I played D:OS. It is now Sunday morning. And this game has sucked me in thoroughly. I think I've gotten about 7 hours of sleep in the last 2 days, and I was playing rock-paper-scissors in my dreams for the majority of those 7 hours. lol If that's not immersion then I don't know what immersion is. This game is fantastic. It scratches the itch. It fills the void. If a game of this quality and polish can be done with just $4 million, then I shudder at the bloat and utter financial incompentence from other companies who can't create a game with HALF the content and depth of D:OS even though they've got 10X the funding to work with. Too many face slaps from the developers inside the game: 1) Grave next to cyceal healer which insta kill you with no common sense warning. 2) angry statue future forecast which kicks you subtitles - Even monkey island - a slap stick comedy game has more grace with its regular winks at its audience , after all the protagonist guybrush has constant conversations with the player. 3) The diablo 2 styled item system with normal, nightmare and hell difficulty levels all mixed together - in reality there is no difference between weapon level 1 and weapon level 10 - but for some reason there is in this game. a big difference which only reason to be there is to encourage you to go on a pointless loot hunting (witcher 2 only has this feature and its a bad immersion breaking feature ) 9 level bosses are weaker than 10 leveled mobs. 4) the world doesn't react to you and doesnt care about what you do, you can murder almost everyone or steal everything and no one will bat and eyelash. 5) Npcs are flat, carton papaer thick followers and so is your fellow npc source hunter on single player(just like in icewind dale. I could go on and on. In general the immersion level in this game is very thin and after after you learn to understand the combat mechanics, it too becomes repetitive as the Ai in this game is very limited.
  2. I love AD&D it was much easier for me to relate to the AD&D rules in comparison to the more advance versions which came afterwards. I could imagine how a character would look and feel like just by reading into their stats and that's something I cannot due with more modern D&D versions.
  3. That question is a bit misleading, the more correct question is, what do you want from your games? What aspects of the games are most important and will determine the final score you give a game, as far as gaming goes I expect the same thing from an Indie company and an AAA company. An indie company will never be able to truly compete with an AAA company(If the AAA company knew what they were doing), but it can still perform and shine in some aspects of the game. So what do you say guys and girls, what makes a great game?
  4. This thread has inspired me to open a new thread in its image but on a completely different tone.
  5. It will be a good coop game, they will need to add content if they want to make it a good single player. like someone else mention to create more interactions. I would also go as far as too add more npcs interactions or deeper Npcs if you will. the original game felt very flat and empty even for an icey wasteland. The soundtrack is great but needs to be extended as its too short- Although i guess putting skyrim soundtrack in the background or 2 steps from hell could solve that issue. Skyrim soundtrack is Jeremy soule best work after all and its what make that game the best jogging simulator ever.
  6. People lose interest quick in this game less than 4% finished it. In order to stop a playthrough half way through. so take to statistics from above now cut them in half because you are two people. The quality of the game also influence the chances you will finish it. Original sin despite all the hype isn't a 10. its a coop, rated 8. with plenty of statistics (finishing statistics) to back it up. if you want to finish it you have to find someone who you know will be able to walk that path with you.
  7. It's definitely designed with co-op in mind but after so many lean years one doesn't simply dismiss a party-based CRPG of such scale as "very bad". The key to a good party base game are the interactions between the characters which make them feel life like, you will not find a baldurs gate, planescape torment or dragon age in divinity original sin not even near.
  8. People used to pirate games more in the past which equals free games. The amount of games I buy now in comparasion to the amount of games I bought when i was growing up, has changed drastically. If you give a quick look to the games of the 1990.. or early 2000.. i am sure that you will have troubles finishing any of them. Video games have become better over time and we have also have become harder to please due to our search for new experiences. Volo, you need to understand that we just arrived at the age when we have too much stuff going on to dedicate ourselves to virtual toils and wanderings. Its new to us. I am still surprised by the number of people who for a variety of reasons just don't finish the games they purchase I was under the mistaken impression that generally most people finish the games they play. Let it not be said these forums aren't source of information On the subject at hand, the more time pass the more my experience with divinity original sin becomes negative. Unless you have a committed friend to play this game with, I strongly recommend to stay away from it. Its a very bad single player game, which is why so many didn't finish it yet.
  9. The amount of money you spend on game influence how many games you will have. the more games, the more picky you will become. The more alternatives you have to how you spend your time. Therefor in modern days it is much more likely too not finish a game especially with steam highly successful sales strategy.
  10. Considering the games drought that hit this summer and the fact that DOS is the most decent (I'd daresay best) game that has come out this year. Those that tend to hyperbole would no doubt exalt it as such. Still, I'd say this before and I will say it again: it needs a better questing system and journal descriptions. In the past you used to pay 30$-50$ for a game or pirate it. Nowdays when the little kids of the 90... have money to buy their own video game on steam and the abundance of steam games you can find yourself buying plenty of games, some you will never get to play or finish. Its easier to stop a game in the middle when you have a choice and after you only payed 5$ for it. It gets even easier when they shove their old bad games down your throats for free. I had many games I never touched from steam bundles and many games I stopped playing due to them not being fun, I also have many games I have laying around for more than a year I plan to get to someday... This change in gaming atmosphere has lead me to peruse shorter games with higher proved quality and I still fail to finish games. Here is my list payed I stopped in the middle-beginning and have deleted them forever from my life
  11. Its a nice game with fun combat, good coop(very hard to find long terms partners for) and decent music. There are severe drawbacks though: Loot - Feels like an mmorpg - diablo. this was also my biggest drawback on witcher 2 ridiculous loot. Items improve vastly humorously the more you go without any regards to style or grace, you just keep receiving the same old loot with upgraded stats - this is done in order to encourage you to open every container there is and spend a big awful lot of time in the market and resell those items to the poor old fisherman who you turned into a weapons dealer. Shops - Badly implemented Restock - leveled loot un appropriate amount of gold Lack of help from the locals - the lack of help from the locals and arbitrary high price for skill books from the local wizard of cyceal encourage you to turn to thievery, early on in order to survive and become the world greatest painting thief. Immersion, Immersion, Immersion - There isn't any. Arbitrary enemies level - lack of free exploration - Its a linear game hiding itself as free roam, a big setback from the baldurs gate series - there is a huge gap between level 1 and level 5 even though it doesn't take you long to become level 5. this is done in order to push you down a certain path, Its done without any tact. Boring single player game - You can't play it for long on your own without getting bored, this will lead to a big waste of time while you try finding someone to play with. Short game - medium to small content game with lots of menial tasks aimed at prolonging it. Overall the game is a 5/10 single player game and a 8/10 coop game - for total gaming experience I would rate it 7/10, it's worthwhile trying for rpg and coop fans but doesn't come near my top games of all time list. Its big success and public appeal can only be attributed to the lack of solid plot driven coops out there, I don't know if it was worth the trouble for me getting this game because of all the hardships of finding a reliable playing partner for such a long coop, I think this game is most suited for married couples or young brothers living under the same house.
  12. We are talking about purified drinking water here. an average person in hot areas would drink 3-5 liters a day per person, you can use more efficient ways to cook and clean. In my country 75% of the agriculture uses waste water with more than 80% of the country water consumption being recycled. Like already mention earlier here, this machine is humidity based so in wont be effective for people living in the desert unless they start planting trees. Unfortunately many countries whom are suffering from lack of water are doing exactly the opposite.
  13. http://edition.cnn.com/2014/04/24/tech/innovation/machine-makes-drinking-water-from-air/ "The system produces 250-800 liters (65-210 gallons) of potable water a day depending on temperature and humidity conditions and Kohavi says it uses two cents' worth of electricity to produce a liter of water." "The World Health Organization reports that 780 million people don't have access to clean water, and 3.4 million die each year due to water-borne diseases." "Water-Gen's units can produce a liter of water for 1.5 Rupees, as opposed to 15 Rupees for a liter of bottled water." "Another product Water-Gen has developed is a portable water purification system. It's a battery-operated water filtration unit called Spring. Spring is able to filter 180 liters (48 gallons) of water, and fits into a backpack -- enabling water filtration on the go."
  14. That video shows you the importance of a higher ground, the brave lone polish entered their killing zone time after time. At the end after they reassured their position of strength they entered the bus negotiations on better terms.
  15. Interesting video, but there were almost no Palestinians mentioned on it. can't talk about a conflict of two when you omit one of your sides. And that wasn't the only thing omitted. That guy could join rostere on BBC.
  16. Don't expect magical walls, you still have to block the threats from other areas: Sea, Air and tunnels. A wall is never unstoppable obstacle, but it does make life harder for your foes. Solutions against tunnels are already being developed, Its all a matter of cost vs benefit.
  17. Un surprising to hear such ideas from Sweden. after all the country is performing self genocide against native swedes, standing second in rape rates with large number of them violent. And still no hope for the swedes on the horizon. Just another lesson how wishful thinking doesn't make things true and how giving away honey to murderers wont always make things better. There is much we can learn from Sweden, we can learn how easy it is to take one of the best countries in the world with the best of public services and shatter it to pieces with paragonic naivety.
  18. Fences and walls have proven to be quite useful in the present and past, Its a big investment on the short run but could prove to be beneficial if the threat is real enough, With more and more terrorists like ISIS, hamas, al Qaeda and Hezbollah the threat appears to be bigger than ever. People who enters USA through the use of visa are vastly different are vastly different than those who are smuggle themselves into the country. If there is fear of the country collapsing you can always issue more work permits, so the threating the collapse of the country isn't true. more so there are plenty of unemployed usa citizens who could step into the vacuum if the work conditions were good enough.
  19. Failing to see understand why Israel has right to exist go with the same length of failing to understand the interests of the western world back in 1947. No Israel could have meant a much poorer western world or many more western world expenses and casualties. The reality hasn't changed much in the last sixty years even though it is getting there with all the shale oil that keeps popping around.
  20. You tell your own story within the limits of the stories the game developer gave you, the only true sandbox is a true MMO. right now all the popular ones theme parks or theme parks in disguise. By branching out too much you reduce the quality of your product, my favorite rpgs in recent years were: Mass effect 2, Witcher 2, deus ex and New Vegas. When I think about a story fitting for a game I am thinking about something that could work like those games, my current idea story telling mechanic is mostly like new Vegas which is why I thought it could benefit Obsidian the most.
  21. Zoabi has a long history of undermining the Israeli nation interests and supporting those who seek to destroy us, a quick search into her history will raise the question which is asked so often which is how she has managed to stay in the Knesset for so long. Democracy doesn't give a person liberty to work against the state itself by provoking enemies attacks and supporting the enemy cause. There is the big difference between Israeli politicians encouraging more radical attacks against the Hamas and encouraging attacks against Israel. You didn't write where you took your second quote from, therefor I will not address it. Ayelet shaked and Liberman both are addressing one of the biggest issues of our time, Civil responsibility. Everything you do has consequences if you incite someone to murder a fellow person there should be repercussions for your actions. If you choose hamas for your government and stand by as they choose to engage war with Israel. If you stand by and let hamas build a war tunnel under your house or fire missiles from it don't be surprised when it gets blown away. If you let Hamas use your UN school as it center of operations and do nothing to prevent it then you are inviting for Israeli attacks when all hell break loose. I was inside Gaza and I don't remember seeing any Israelis using children as human shields, We have armored vehicles. More so, Population was given time to leave where infantry entered to search for war tunnels. But I shouldn't be surprised from your post since you obviously chosen to target Israel and Israel alone as the big bad thus giving support to the ways of Hamas and its fellow Terrorist brother, not one word to mention all the journalists coming out of gaza and their stories of Hamas censorship inside the strip. This is the truth about news reports from gaza, add things up and you will get the whole picture http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/hamas-tv-kidnapped-bbc-reporter-released-article-1.264480
  22. I still await to see where this peace corps will be coming from, from what I seen and heard about the UN guys, they tend to hide away at the first sign of trouble. Much bigger horrors have taken place in Africa and almost every other place in the middle east, yet I don't see people lining up to risk their lives to save the innocents. Most people would rather live. When was the last time you really risked your life to save innocents Osvir? It can be a very short career. If the IDF acted less aggressively or with more risk to the infantry then many more Israelis would have died, the thing about us Israelis is that unlike Hamas we don't make a habit of turning ourselves into martyrs in order to appease public opinion, if you want to stop death of civilians help then you should do all in your power to prevent Hamas from using the people of Gaza as human shields. Reporters who have now left Gaza are now releasing the truth about what happened there, I recommended you listen to what they have to say.
  23. Its way too early for a united world because those beyond keyboard like you and myself have too much to lose by splitting resources equally among everyone on the planet. moreso there are some people around this planet who still haven't reached the same level of understanding of nature and are currently breeding beyond their limits. This directly leads to shortage of food and clean water. By splitting the resources of the world without a regulation we are putting our world on a fast route towards world hunger and decay. In the long run, complete globalization is unavoidable and the entire world will be one united community in the end, but don't kid yourself about your ability to influence it or count on it happening any time soon. Free and renewal energy is the key.
  24. Just because we have fast internet and microwaves nowdays doesn't make things much different. the human race hasn't changed much during the last thousands of years, ignoring the hard lessons of the past regarding human nature would leave a person ignorant. Believing other people think the same way you do even though you and them share nothing in common wouldn't result in them changing how they think. Welcoming a blood lusting murderer with open arms (see the Swedish case) would result in an easy kill.
  25. Osvir. I appriceate your kind intentions of bring global peace and all. But going full turtle is the opposite of what you are supposed to be doing in war situations. In war, in order to save most life you go on the offensive. Going defensive means you will only be inviting for more attacks. Take war world 2 for example, the allies appeasing style regarding Czech only fueled further the german war machine turning Europe into a mass grave of millions, leaving many cities in utter destructions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_betrayal Defensive as a strategy is bad, bad bad... And don't let yourself to be confused there is almost no difference between the gaza elected Hamas and Isis. They use the same tactics and the share the same agenda. Which is why hamas are looked so frownly upon in eygpt. On the opposite of what you think Hamas is a well funded Kickstarter project, they are the military branch of Qatar and Iran both countries are 'shining examples' of Human rights and democracy. Words are nice, but when someone is trying to kill you bullets are better. If you tried going about your way in all of obsidian games by just talking you would be dead pretty soon. Here is a link about the person who saved most lives in 1930-1950 and maybe even the entire 20 centaury http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_S._Patton
