The reason that i care about a celebrity's death or the victims of 9/11 at the world trade center, is that i have cultural or imaginary bond with them, strengthened by my belief in the american dream about freedom and rock 'n roll. I could care less about people dying in africa; there's people dying in my homecountry everyday as well, nor do i care a slightest about that either. I do not really think that many here really do. Or maybe it is time for us to discuss which one's suffering is objectively worse than the other?

Besides, they have Steam, so they're not in any need of getting bought out. Epic? They have a 10 years plan for Gears of Wars, exclusively with Microsoft. I think not even MS is that crazy. And why would they? MS is only interested in their own Xbox 360, buying Epic would alienate Unreal Engine for PS3/PC clients most certainly. Square-Enix isn't big enough to buy Activision-Blizzard. It's more like the other way around, but it seems Activision only cares about Guitar Hero, CoD and the WOW revenues. Stop ruining my trolling. And what would that mean for their successful middleware? Seriously, some companies have to remain independent. And Activision has the Call of Duty franchise. I don't get why you say they have no serious FPS on the market. Gabe has expressed his eternal love for the Xbox360 several times, about as much as his scepticism for the PS3. Again, he left Microsoft on good terms, he like their consoles and they also distribute games for his favourite platform: The PC. What's not to lose? Epic is in the very same situation as ID was years ago, constantly switching between distributors. It is only natural for them to follow ID's footsteps. I take back about Activision, i completely forgot about CoD Maybe Square-Enix will buy them or something.

I wonder why that happened? *points at evul EA* Are you kidding? Mythic missed deadline after deadline on WAR. If you go into work and start a 3 year project, and it gets stretched into a 5 year project, you have messed up and you are lucky you don't get fired. I'm surprised how much time they were actually given on the game. Maybe it's because the 3 year deadline was an impossible goal to meet? I worked as programmer (not as a game programmer though) for some time, and i would say, that of all the projects I worked on, only 3 had realistic deadlines... everything else was plain impossible to offer the demanded product on time... so some content had to be cut... after some while, i just said the money i got, was not worth the stress and overtimes i had to pull for my employer and at the end almost always me and my coleagues getting blamed for not delivering the product on-time... put some marketing clown, who has no clue how long the working code has to be created in the lead of the project and your product fail even if you put your best into it... That's not unusual, most bosses think that programming is the same as any other form of production. That was the main reason on why I switched jobs to a consultant/specialist position; the boss or project manager usually leave you alone, you are often your own boss, and you set the terms by your own standards. As for the merger, meh, it does not even matter since they were already bought by EA. I await for Gaider to found his own company.

Valve would be stupid to allow themselves to be bought, Steam is making them tons of money and their games aren't selling bad either. Epic, I couldn't care less about. Gabe left MS on good terms when he formed Valve, and he has stated several times that he would consider to sell Valve for the right price. Thus, Microsoft would be the natural bidder. Epic hasn't done anything interesting since Unreal Tournament 2004, but they made the original Unreal 1 back in the day, which excuses them eternally for any future mistake. While EA and MS have bought studios that cover basically almost every market segment, Activision has no serious FPSs on the market. I wouldn't be suprised if they bidded for Epic, considering their success on Gears of War.

A shame really. As someone said, it is like an end of an era. Valve will be bought by Microsoft and Epic will be bought by Activision. Oh well, maybe something new will come instead. As they say, "nothing changes".

Yes, but I maintain hope that it will be possible to join the Uber Bad Guy and wipe out humanity from the face of the planet. Or even better, enslave them. That would be in line with the origin of the character I'm planning to play, the poor City Elf bride whose life was ruined by the cruel human overlords. And most importantly, enslaving nations with necromancy.

More difficult, yes. But not entirely impossible though. Just outsource the creative lead to some sociopath on death row and we have a winner.

We need someone to compile all this data in order to create the ultimate NWN mod. It would be the best ever, outselling WoW, Halo and CoD combined.
