Indeed, the Sith officially die at Endor (Exar Kun is exception for that rule, but he's a spirit so he doesn't really count) so they couldn't be used and darksider enemies were done to death anyways. Had to come up a new type of enemy that could match Jedi. I believe that the lightsaber and Force resistance were put in just for means to that end. -
What would you have the next 'Darth' be?
Kissamies replied to Sithmasteryoungy's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Darth Antagonist! The sith lords of that era don't have to be Darths, but I guess they will always have that title anyways in KotOR series. -
Where do the "Darth" names come from?
Kissamies replied to slowpoke's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
This has been discussed before and and probably will be discussed many times in future. Taken from another thread: Sion can also mean noise.Vader probably is a random occurence, but I still do like the way how the names all can be taken to mean something. -

Heh, maybe he should have a master named Darth Ceasar but he gets betrayed by Brutus and some sith assassins who stab him to death with vibroknifes. Then again, maybe that's not a good idea... Et tu, Brute! -

GL and Boba: I think it was on the RotJ commentary track where he said something to the effect of that he would have used Boba Fett more if he had known how popular he would become and that people like him because he's mysterious. Sounds pretty sensible to me. In fact, The best EU stories about Boba tend to keep him that way. NJO: I agree that the Vonglife being completely outside the force was pretty stupid. It was later suggested that they are simply on a "wavelength" that is boyond the "visual range" for most Jedi and I chose to believe that because it made much more sense. I also agree that the resolution came too quickly and easily after Vong ruthlessly blitzkrieging through the galaxy for most of the series. That's especially where the bloatedness works against the series. The Vong steamrolling the galaxy part could have been told with less books. They did drop some hints of Vong having spread themselves too thin and the final resolution had more of a sense of philosphical victory so I can buy it. -
The List of Continuity Mistakes

I'm not so concerned about Basilisk not looking like its TOJ desing, KOTOR's style is different from TOJ anyways. However, it looking like Virago did tickle my "they must have gotten it wrong" nerve. My first thought was along the lines of "Hey, that's Xizor's ship!" Then I just shrugged and moved along. It's not like it's a real issue. -
the bolded part is the biggest issue i have with anderson. he tends to go way overboard when writing about something, almost as a way to try and use a smoke screen to hide his shortcomings as a writer. he needs the unbelievable and the outlandish, otherwise hes nothing but an average or slightly better than average writer. guys like zahn dont need that kind of thing to tell a good story. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Very true, KJA goes always overboard, or almost always anyways. He's still better Tom Veitch IMO, and going overboard is not as big sin in comics. The TotJ does get too far with it's gothic-ancient technology while KOTOR feels too modern to my tastes to be 4000 BBY. I'd like a happy medium better, though I can understand that it needs to be recognisably Star Wars to be marketable as such. I pay too much attention to it anyways. Star Wars is more fantasy than science fiction and doesn't need to be logical in such matters. I should just pretend that all sort of galactic disasters and wars kept the tech level from rising much over the millenia. Really? They both seemed to be using swords to me. Perhaps I missed something. And the Hyperspace War era Sith seemed to use some sort of Dark Side empowered crystal blades (writer wanted to give them something that wouldn't just break when used against lightsabers, I would guess)

Not really arguing, just adding my own comments because I liked your post. 1) Wasn't so excessive in Zahn's books, but when Veitch brought on the Emperor clones it got out of hand. He's probably my least favorite EU author anyways. He has the questionable honor of inventing the Empire's silliest superweapon. I half expected those things to turn into giant humanoid robots. 2) Well, I think he's too liked to stay dead, especially when he died in such undignified manner. GL himself mentioned that he considered making him crawl out of the pit in the special edition, but realised it was unnecessary since people don't believe him dead anyways. Some of the EU stories made him suck, while others portrayed him wonderfully. That's EU for you. 3) I liked NJO, mostly. It was different than the countless "Here's a new, horrible threat to the galaxy, but our heroes will defeat it without taking a scratch." stories that were so common before it. Of course, it did get way too bloated and therefore had some boring stuff in it, but I liked the story overall very much. Had some nice fantacy authors in it. 4) Yes and no, mostly yes. Depends on how it's handled, case by case basis. 5) Well, that's not so much of a stretch from the scale of engineering that spawned Death Stars, but the recurring superweapon theme that plagued early EU especially did get boring. Perhaps it was RPG's fault. It instructed GMs to never blow up a city if you can blow up a planet. Early EU seemed to be built around the d6 RPG and that's one reason for me really liking the early books especially. 1,3) Yeah, the "professionalist" attitude of some of the Zahn's characters sometimes gets to my nerves, but his stuff is right there at the top of EU nevertheless. Lots of people like Mara Jade, me included. 2) Yes, my favorite EU book for a long time. Got to say that as a finn, the pharse "ter -
Honestly, it depends. If they hire real talent--like Wing Commander III/IV, it works out pretty nicely. And the Jedi Knight ones weren't bad, IMO. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, some of the scenes were not that good, but most of them were OK and some of them even pretty good. More impressive than the engine cutscenes in JO at any rate, IMO. I still think highly of DF2, too bad that the netcode was so bad. I think I go watch the DS ending FMV now.

The List of Continuity Mistakes
Kissamies replied to Darth Nuke's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yeah, I suspected that it might have been. Still, I expect it took some heavy interpreting to make it fit the EU. For example, the comics heavily imply that the Empire ceases to exist, at least as a major threat, at Endor while EU has it crumbling at significantly slower pace. -
The List of Continuity Mistakes
Kissamies replied to Darth Nuke's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yeah, I was wondering if someone else caught that. Maybe they got their ship concepts mixed up or decided to reuse some models. Thanks for reminding me why the word Nagai felt so familiar. I remember the white skinned space punkers obsessed with knives now. There's a Zeltron in the game too. Nice nod of the head for the old comics. I don't think they are really considered part of EU. At least not as rigidly as the stuff written after EU was established. -

EU has gotten really huge by now and therefore there is a lot of room for awfulness in it. If you ignore the worst bits and focus on the best parts, EU is brilliant, novels especially. There was a time when I liked EU much better than the movies, perhaps I still do, but I'm not so interested of all the prequel based stuff. I tend to avoid the more general SW forums like a plague because those canononlykthxbibi people get to my nerves. They are always there yelling "OMG IT'S NOT CANON! IT NEVER HAPPENED!!1! END OF DISCUSSION!!one" Disagreeing with a theory or opinion based on logic or own preferences is one thing, being diametrically opposed to something just because it happens to be in EU is something else altogether. "It is like this in EU so it must be like something else in 'real' SW universe!" The mind boggles. Oh, and I personally think that Ep 2 wasn't that bad. Lucas sucks at directing his actors, but it was pretty good otherwise. The quality of the whole series started going down at RotJ and AotC is where it starts to go up again. I hope that Episode 3 will follow that trend. -
Indeed. All hail Darth Ponytail! His actual campaign may not have been that long, but he managed to do some impressive damage with it, even if he left the actual fighting against the Republic for his underlings and concentrated on the Jedi himself. KJA's storytelling might not be that great, but he did manage to create some interesting characters and locales.

Swoop racing - does it even work right?
Kissamies replied to lothos's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yes, same happens to me. The bike stays at the jump height for the whole race and therefore doesn't make contact with the pads. I actually made it go at normal ground height by bumping into few things at Nar Shaddaa, but that's not a very reliable workaround. -
Original Trilogy Quotes in K2

Can't remember for sure if it is in the game or not, but it is in the sound files: Sion: "What is thy bidding, my master?" -
At least they didn't try to up the ante and start blowing up stars or whole star clusters as certain less respected authors are known to do. Also, it should be noted that there are different degrees of killing a planet. Causing the inhabitants to die mysteriously is common, as is bombarding the surface to rubble with conventional space fleet. Causing the whole planet to break apart instead of simply glassing the surface is and should be more rare. Well, Objulen is right. You can blow up a planet only so many times before it gets boring.

Yes, Darth Dan is correct. The events of both KotOR's are placed on the 4000 BBY era of EU, while the Battle of Ruusan and Darth Bane is on 1000 BBY. BTW, I remember GL explaining the rule of two in some DVD or other by saying that if there was 3 Sith Lords, 2 of them would immediately ally against the third. Not the most unreasonable thing he has said.
