The only thing offensive about the term Indian (other than the factual inaccuracy, Happy Columbus day everyone) is the fact that most American Indians prefer to be identified by their tribe. That's why nobody complains about the Braves.

Ok, I'm sure there are probably people who complain about the Braves and their tomahawk chop, but people complain about everything.

Florida State was one of the biggest complainers about the Tomahawk Chop since it was stolen from them...

The old Brave's 'Screaming/Shouting/Laughing Indian' logos and mascot Chief Knoc-A-Homa, his "teepee", and Princes Win-A-Lotta did get complaints, hence why they were dropped circa 1986.

Alright, should not judge how people use sleep aids. :p. Was expecting people to move to NASCAR, that crowd seems perfect for people caring that much about patriotic stuff.

Golden chance to push rugby, I guess

  To quote the late great Red Barber "Baseball is only dull to dull minds". But speaking for myself only I really don't follow the NFL much until after the World Series is over. College football is a whole different story though. There is a passion found in College ball the NFL has lost. If it ever even had it. I do wonder why Rugby isn't more popular here. I went to the Rugby Seven WC in Vegas a few years ago. That was a heck of a good time.

Baseball is a great lazy afternoon sport.  You can put as little or as much attention as you want into it and be rewarded.

I also am surprised Rugby isn't more popular (but then for years I was mystified about the lack of interest in Soccer/Football).

People have been lamenting soccer's lack of success here but the MLS is very successful. In may not be breaking into "the big four" but the league is healthy, on TV, has great attendance and is playing at a high enough level to attract good players from Europe. The NFL is still the big dog in the yard when it comes to sports in the US and this whole take a knee stuff isn't going to change that.

Uh, not too sure it's playing at high enough level to attract European players that are good. Seems like a 2nd or 3rd tier European league some times. They should ditch the salary cap, that'll help it attract others as some Russian/Arab with a lot of money might jump in. Always found that interesting how the US leagues with caps and drafts are more socialist than the EU leagues where it's all about the cash :p

Well I "was" mystified - I'd say the last few years have seen a great upsurge in Soccer's success, from the the attention MLS has received to networks like NBC showing English and German league games in the afternoon.

That is pretty cool to see Premier League games on TV here isn't it?

Yup, it is.  Been great fun to see.

Hitting a baseball off a major league pitcher is the most difficult thing to do in any sport, period.

NFL Players - "We are kneeling because of racial inequality and police brutality in the US."

Point me to any statement made by NFL players that said so. There were no press conference, no speech after kneeling, no nothing from those players. And that's part of the problem, and that's why NFL approval rating fallen face first on the ground:

Not a big surprise that Sharp_One is in the dark about this stuff, given the sources he reads.

It's not hard to find this stuff. It's completely fair to to disagree with the way they are saying it or the platform they are using, but pretending it's about something else entirely is at best ignorant.

No doubt ditching the salary cap would make it a more popular sport... in the same measure that it would damage the league's competitiveness. Team budget and ref/league corruption really have ruined any appeal the sport can have for anyone who isn't brain dead or a Real fan (cue equivalence jokes). I guess that must be the "invisible hand" I've heard so much about...

So are they kneeling in protest of racism and police brutality OR are they kneeling to protest Trump bashing NFL allowing the protests?

Never mind... this is politics thread not sports

Easy mistake these days.

So are they kneeling in protest of racism and police brutality OR are they kneeling to protest Trump bashing NFL allowing the protests?

Are they protesting for the right to protest?

Pre Trump comments it was mostly the first one, post Trump comments I'd wager the latter

Either way it wouldn't be about what they're trying to spin it as

Free games updated 3/4/21

It might make more sense to ask each player why THEY are doing it rather than collectively asking why are all of them doing it. I seems to hear different answers from different players.

JT Brown from the Tampa Bay Lightning is getting in on the act:

He said he got death threats after. I don't see how. He plays for the Lightning so no one saw the game.

Why are they doing the nation anthem anyway. Seems highly suspect during a club match. The only. Time you do that is during an international. So you get a chance to shot louder than the opposotion and boo louder when they they try to sing theirs.

Singing the anthem during internal club matches seems highly mastubatory

Everyone is so uptight about Democrats vs Republicans. That is just a distraction. It's really the government vs you.

I'm not sure what's wrong about shutting down someone who isn't qualified to hand out dietary advice from doing so for-profit. Would you feel similarly outraged if she was offering tips on prescription drug usage?

I didn't know, but looks to me like the requirements for obtaining a dietitian's license in Florida are quite stringent. That's a good thing. She doesn't get to do the same thing without undergoing proper training. What happens if someone's health is damaged from following her advice?

I would think you would just need to put up a disclaimer that you are not a licensed dietician. That's how private schools get away with hiring unqualified teachers.

Well I understand it's tradition and all, a way of political protest. Still, I think you should get out there more. You have basketball, the rest of the world plays that and you are good at it. American football, baseball, nobody else really cares about that.

If you played something the rest of the world cares about and played it regularly in internationals, that people actually followed. Well, that way you could concentrate on hating the Swedes and the Germans. That's much more unifying.

I'm projecting here.

As long as she is not presenting herself as something she's not what is the problem? Suppose you need new brakes on your car. The repair shop quotes you one price and I offer to do it in my backyard for half. Should the government be harassing me? The choice is always with the consumer.
