Now that Obsidian forcefully take away 1 party character, i think Ranger companions or Party Summons play an important role for the 6th slot. I'm not sure if this were asked before. I like to see ranger companions and other character summons plays an more important role and offer more customization, leveling and progression.

Choose a bear companion for more tankiness? Or choose a sabretooth for more DPS? Also besides ranger, i like some other classes maybe Wizards? To have it's own  familliar, constructs or even summon? Having a Nymph or a Faery as a semi-permanent companion? Like summon Nymph/Faery once per encounter/rest.

These summons or companions would have their own HP, defense, resist, abilities, spells and talents? That would be great. Perhaps these were discussed. If so my apologies.

Ps. I can't see myself not taking a Ranger or having any of the party members to not multi-class as one in Deadfire.

What you described for rangers already exists in PoE1. Apart from Maia's bird, I don't think we're getting anything new there.

Now, I would absolutely love the option to create a summons based wizard, but apparently this is not to be. Even in the old infinite engine games, summoning was limited... *sigh*.

I'm down for a nymph companion. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

How about a succubus summon? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Lol?

Anyway, as it has been discussed numerous times before, Deadfire isn't gonna be just Pillars 1 with 5 characters; it's gonna be designrd AROUND 5 characters so we can't know how more important summons gonna be compared to the 1st game; not untill we actually play it.

I would like it if we could select separate talents for our Ranger companions every few levels, as well as give them a limited set of equipment.

Whinging about smaller party size aside, I'm definitely down for more customization of the ranger's pet. In Pillars, we just pick its type, and then there's a few abilities and talents.

Rangers gonna have sub-classes. One's gonna be focusing travelling without a pet; we can assume one will focus more on the pet? Maybe?

Perhaps a melee ranger with druid-like spiritshift ability that matches their companion? So a bear:bear, boar:boar, antelope:stag, wolf:wolf, or cat:lion.

Presumably that wouldn't be as effective a Ranger.

As I understand it, a summons-based chanter is one of the subclasses.
