nifel87 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Hello everyone! :D (First of all, I'm sorry for my english) I know it's too early to talk about the localization, but the lack of it in Italian for Tyranny has really ruined the game experience for me and since PoE was localized in Italian I hope the same will happen for PoE2:D. I have already supported the game on Fig, so I will buy it anyway, but I'd like to know some information on this matter ^^ Great work Obsidian, looking at the screenshots I already love this game :D 2
Mazisky Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 (edited) PoE italian localization was so good and well done, i gifted the game to 2 friends who could enjoy the game too! Please at least make a stretch goal for that!! me and many others will pay more for it!!! Don't abandon us!!!!! Edited January 26, 2017 by Mazisky 1
theBalthazar Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 (edited) I don't really understand. I think (i'm not sure) there is all languages localizing in PoE. + Audio localizing in french and german ? There is a blurr for this...^^ Why We're Asking For Your HelpIn addition to localizing the game in both French and German languages, Edited January 26, 2017 by theBalthazar
Flouride Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Didn't they have some of the localizations as stretch goals on PoE? I would imagine those are the kinda stretch goals they would include this time around as well if they have enough data to support such decisions. Hate the living, love the dead.
nifel87 Posted January 26, 2017 Author Posted January 26, 2017 If I remember correctly there was a surplus of funds for PoE. So Obsidian decided to do a survey to decide which language include in addition to those already provided. I don't remember what were the languages to choose from but I remember that the poll was won from Italian.

French and German will be added after succesful crowfunding. No other languages planned for now.
theBalthazar Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 In a game with this quantity of text ? It's problematic for left behind (Spanish, Italian and others...)...

nifel87 Posted January 26, 2017 Author Posted January 26, 2017 Let's hope that they'll add some stretch goals to add other languages Especially Italian
nifel87 Posted January 26, 2017 Author Posted January 26, 2017 By the way, more than 315k in less than 3h
Txibi Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Greetings. I will support just like the kickstarter of 1 and tyranny, if I can understand the language of the game. In my case, Spanish. Txibi. 1
Testamorta Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Hello everyone, I just wanted to point out a little thing I found which is actually kinda huge. Basically when starting the game, the message (in Italian) advertising a new expansion is available got the game's name wrong. A misspelling causing the downloadable content to be called "Pillars of Eternity: La Biancamarca" instead of "Pillars of Eternity: La Biancamarcia" with the i (screenshot attached). By the way, I am professional translator, if any of the producer is reading this I just wanted to let them know I'd be happy to give a hand with the It localization. Keep up the good work guys!
Heijoushin Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 You Italian chaps must tell Obsidian to "O mangiar questa minestra o saltar questa finestra!" (hehe, that expression is so funny) Just kidding. I hope you guys get your Italian version, and I pray that there are no incidents like with Tides of Numenera... 2

(hehe, that expression is so funny) Just kidding. I hope you guys get your Italian version, and I pray that there are no incidents like with Tides of Numenera... No way you are Japanese! How do you even know that? :D Btw, it's "...o saltar dalla finestra!" but nice one anyway! Edited March 28, 2017 by Testamorta 1
Regggler Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 "O mangiar questa minestra o saltar questa finestra!" For everyone whose grasp on Italian is as tenuous as mine, the net came up with "eat this soup or jump out of the window". Love it! 1 Endure. In enduring, grow strong.
Pinsalinj Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 Btw, it's "...o saltar dalla finestra!" but nice one anyway! That makes more sense! I still don't get what it's supposed to mean in the context (I understand the literal meaning just fine, but what is it an expression for ?) though :D
Amentep Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 My understanding is that its conceptually similar to "take it or leave it". I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
AndreaColombo Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 (edited) "Pillars of Eternity: La Biancamarcia" La Biancamarcia? Really? How could people possibly find the Italian translation of Pillars of Eternity good is way beyond my understanding. I tried it for, like, two dialogs and changed back to English immediately, never to look back. Whoever decided that names of places should be translated shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a translation, professional or otherwise... Testamorta Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 My understanding is that its conceptually similar to "take it or leave it". That's basically it, meaning you have no choice. "Pillars of Eternity: La Biancamarcia" La Biancamarcia? Well that's not totally correct my friend. Either in letterature and games, there's plenty of examples showing the decision about how to deal with names when translating should differ on a case by case basis. Take the Lord of the Rings, for instance. The Italian translation (the same since forever and imho flawless) has a lot of translated names that get along perfectly with English names and fictional language ones :D I'm so glad the Brandywine, the Withywindle (this one still means nothing to me), the Barrow-downs, Goldberry, and many others have been translated so sweetly even a 14 years old me could get the feeling. Translating it's harder than you think, but it's also so much fun if you translate the right piece of art, I must say! 1

(2.2M$) It is funded so you will get it. Unless you are asking for full VO... I wouldn't count on that.

The location names are the only bad part about italian PoE translation. All dialogues were pretty good and professional
