Meh, the problem won't be solved by politicians anyway.

Fixed that for ya. It's already too late.

The issue now isn't how to solve climate change but how to mitigate the catastrophe as much as possible. The Paris agreement will help, somewhat, but Trump's asshatery will certainly be a blow to its positive effects, given the US's weight in the world, in terms of emissions.

If this doesn't convince you the government is getting out of control I don't know what will: http://reason.com/blog/2017/04/26/after-challenging-red-light-cameras-oreg

The quote function does not appear to be working right. So in short a man in Oregon is cited by a red light camera. So he began doing some research on his own into how red light cameras work and found some serious flaws. He asked to present these findings to the State Board and rather than hear him he was fined an additional $500 for basically doing math without the permission of the state.

This thing is still going on. It's looking more and more like this guy is right and the State of Oregon might have to refund every red light camera fine they have collected over the years. Still a ways to go: http://reason.com/blog/2017/06/02/oregon-man-who-was-fined-for-doing-math

World pledges to save "mother Earth".

See, everything's cool.

The World Meteorological Organization estimated that U.S. withdrawal from the emissions-cutting accord could add 0.3 degrees Celsius to global temperatures by the end of the century in a worst-case scenario.

0.3 degrees in the next 87 years! We think! Oh noes!

Kinda sorta. I do believe climate change is happening and that it is being influenced by human activities. However, I am not ready to dive onto the "world is ending" grenade.

This society cannot allow a civil exchanging of ideas or theories. Everything is black or white and everyone must fall in one of the two camps. :shrugz:

Aren't US CO2 emissions dropping faster than anyone's? And isn't the Paris agreement a bunch of symbolic BS which will never be complied with by anyone anyway?

the question o' how much impact humans have on global temperatures is worthy o' enlightened debate.  however, your sneer is perplexing 'cause o' the way you phrase your quip.

a couple degrees IS a big deal.  period. IF one nation alone were to be responsible for a .3 degree change in 87 years, that would be significant.  such a point is not actual subjective or part o' the debate.  whether is human activity which is responsible for the change is where experts disagree... although increasing few seem to be dismissive o' the human factor.

no, a two degree change will not result in the end o' all life on the planet, but is gonna result in drastic changes for humans. wanna argue that the so-called experts is simple guessing 'bout the 'mount o' impact the USA would have on global temperatures increase or that human action is a main driver o' temp increases?  okie dokie.  regardless, am admitted baffled by the folks who see a numbers like .3 in 87 years and seem to think such a change is laughable or negligible. unclear-on-the-concept reveal.

Thing is at the scale of the entire planet, that's not as insignificant as one would think.

I can't believe how cruel and heartless Donald Trump is to do this to all of us. Do you realize that after doing this the Mississippi River will rise as much as 1.5 meters next February? After this there will be hurricanes in the Atlantic this summer? Some might even hit the US? Do you realize that after this the Sun will go nova someday and destroy Mercury, Venus, and the Earth too? After this every single one of us, everyone reading this thread is going to die (someday)? And even worse, your children are all going to die (someday). Oh my God... in just three hours the ocean levels around New York city will rise almost four feet!. Four feet!!! And the things are so unstable by 10 PM tonight they will fall over five feet!

We're doomed!

I've never understood the need to split hairs over environmental concerns. We should be constantly pushing for cleaner energy because it is the smartest long term decision.

I suppose part of my objection is the pulling of numbers out of asses. Planet climate is a terrifically complicated matter that we do not come close to fully understanding yet. Then that lack of knowledge is used to create echo chambers and panicky declarations (even when the statement itself says "worst case scenario"). What? There is absolutely no way to prove that statement.

You can't just say "push for cleaner energy",  that's not a plan. You have to do a cost-benefit analysis, and have a blue print for getting there.

It's not about clean energy. It's about political power. It's about money. Even if you accept that 100% of the worst assumptions about human induced climate change are true what we are really seeing are cynical attempts to exploit the problem to seize political power or "level" the economic playing field.
