The systems are so different that I'm not sure a good comparison can be made. It's not like we even have national voting on anything here

On the one hand, its a distinctive look.  On the other hand, I can't help but wonder if such a design would really hold up to real world conditions (looking at the site, I can't tell how much physics testing they've done).

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

It's been a long time since I took a Statics class but I do remember something about the relationship of the angle of supports to the bend radius of the arch to reduce torsional stress. It probably won't look exactly like the concept.

The real question would be, would you feel happy and productive working if your office was at the centre of that arch? ;)

Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra

It's quite common with cars and such aswell, though I haven't stumbled across anything quite that draconian, but I'm sure they will find their inspiration soon.

I hate companies that does these sort of things, shafting custumers.

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

Heh.

Krispy Kreme has decided it has to change it's name in the UK. They're now rebranding as Krispy Cream, because apparently too many people over here saw "Kreme" and would pronounce it as "Crème" instead of Cream.  So they're rebranding everything on this side of the Atlantic.

And for the general weirdness of news and life on our modern planet...

Panda Style

PornHub has promised to donate $100 to panda conservation efforts for every video you upload of yourself having sex in a panda costume.

Animal conservationists have a lot of trouble saving the giant panda from extinction because the cute, cuddly creatures just won’t mate. Their low sex drive could well threaten their future on the planet.

The female panda’s mating season is a scant two to four days out of the year, and during that time males are often too busy eating and napping to seize the limited opportunity.

Female pandas give birth in the wild every two years or so. Female pandas in captivity give birth even less often. That cute panda couple China gifted the National Zoo back in the 1970s took a full decade before they tried to mate. They eventually had five cubs, but none survived to adulthood.

To boost the endangered animals’ sex drives, zoo keepers have even taken to showing giant pandas hardcore panda pornography, with some success. They’ve tried Viagra as well, but it didn’t work.

In response to the critical lack of panda sex, PornHub has launched a campaign encouraging fans to make “panda style” porn in animal costumes or body paint. For every video uploaded to the site’s “panda style” category, PornHub promises to donate $100 to panda conservation efforts. They’ll also donate based on the number of views a video gets. Finally, your fetish can save the natural world!

PornHub also suggests that playing this human-made panda porn could be used to get the pandas in the mood. We’re not so sure about that, unless real-life pandas are either really dumb or really kinky.

This isn’t PornHub’s first foray into public service. The company also sent out trucks to help Boston and New Jersey residents get plowed… out of their snow-covered roads.

“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

"The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."

Okay, so April is apparently Genocide Awareness and Prevention Month.

The Anne Frank Centre as such doing the "We'll be highlighting 30 genocides over the 30 days of April"...

Is it just me, or is it weird to pick a month like April for that? Having the various "Genocide Awareness" signs, and points being made about Native American and other groups suddenly showing up on newsfeeds and the like.. on April Fools day.
