I haven't been around much the last two weeks. Just checking in. I see there has been some good news, Calax has a girlfriend (I know he said almost but that was a few days ago. I'm sure he's closed that deal by now) and bad news with Shady taking cold showers.

I'm working long hours both at work and home learning the new job. The hardest part has been absorbing the state laws and county codes for property use and water management. I'd describe this job was 33% engineering, 33% ecology and 33% lawyer. Obviously I'm weakest on the last part to that is where I'm spending the most off hours studying. I did hear one interesting nugget. The job was offered to two other candidates who were more qualified but they turned it down because (I'm assuming) it is a public sector job and does not pay well. The offered it to me because I interviewed well and because I'm a vet and they make veteran hiring a priority. I thought that was nice.

Its very reassuring and positive to see some of the ardent support veterans receive in the USA, thats how it should be for people are prepared to risk there lifes for there country

I agree. Unfortunately it has not always been so in these parts.

I am an idiot. Less than an hour from Anaheim, California, and I didn't go. Next year, SW Celebration is light-years away off-planet in London.

I missed out on Guernica and Frozen Slave Leia.

Getting old, couldn't remember one good riddle from my child hood... so for the last hour I have been googling fun riddles for 5-10 year olds... and somehow found porn ?!

Either google is giving me a huge hint about my extra curricular activities, or its finally time to turn on the family safe filter :/

Nah, don't block anything... you need to be aware of the profoundly iniquitous nature of the Internet   :fdevil:

I google image searched "chair" once and got porn. There wasn't even a chair in the porn pictures. The internet just works that way. To be fair, this was before google even had the safe filter.

It can be troublesome when one is at work, I just avoid image searches unless I am home though - not from planning, thinking about it.

Now I want some, they sell some for $0.50 downstairs but I can't be bothered to go downstairs. Laziness works well to avoid eating sweets.

Hot water heater is on the fritz a month out of warranty

Seriously, 6 years and 1 month...

Rush to Home Depot and buy one of the older hot water heaters as the new ones have an overly complicated "energy saving system" that's virtually guaranteed to be more problematic and pricey than the traditional tanks.

Sounds like me, most of the time. "I want (insert some snack/meal), but I'd have to leave the house ... nah."

I haven't made deserts much in a while, and the general stores rarely have anything I want either, so ... this time I made my own. Rolled dough into individual portions that I freeze so I can cook 4 cookies at a time over some days vs. a giant whole batch at once that sits on a plate and tempts me to eat them all in one day. :cat:

Happy Birthday Calax. I just raised a toast to you. Just because you didn't see it don't mean it didn't happen!

Boss man booked us a table at some place called Untitled Supper Club for our yearly 1 on 1 meeting while I'm in Chicago next week. He knows I'm a bourbon man and they supposedly have one of the largest collections of American whiskey.

Happy birthday Calax!

So many groovy new establishments lately. The last five years have seen a huge influx of cash and quality brew pubs in coastal Oceanside. It used to be all pawn shops and jarhead barbers along PCH, but craft brewing and good food have invaded to a welcome delight.

Tonight, checked out a place called Local Tap House ... LTH. Tried the Ale Smith Nut Brown, superb, then Mother Earth Cali Creamin' Vanilla Cream Ale ... again, it was no pumpkin peach ale, but still decent. The brown was the best, but only in the absence of scotch ale on tap.

Food wise, tried the 60/40 chorizo/beef burger. Not bad, a little too intense flavor. Like a smack in the face compared to that one up in Manhattan Beach. The venue itself is top tier ... a whole new contemporary coastal pub/kitchen chic is doing most everything right. The wait staff shirts have a printed stamp just above the back hem ... "Tap Something Local."  :shifty:

Isn't Oceanside where you  went to that funky bar with your friend and you took some pics? How far is it from where you stay?

Yes it is, Bagby Beer Co. is three blocks away from LTH on the Coast Highway, fifteen minutes by foot from my house, or 0.6 seconds by motorcycle.

It's no London, but if you come for a visit, dinner is on me.

Walking home is fun, when it's cool still at least, especially when people walk in front of me and then seem to think I am following them and get freaked out. Had a good foot race with a lady yesterday, managed to not laugh when she stopped and I kept on going homeward. Rather glad the area I am walking through now is getting the Condo virus, at least it means there are people around and it's no longer ex-industrial land with low-rent offices.

Yeah, that always makes me laugh if people think you are up to something untoward, like following them, and in fact you are not.
