Do these talents work with spells?? Cause it's not showing the +20% damage on my spell sheet. And tested secrets of rime with winter wind (50 "hit" attacks) and I'm not noticing any difference.

From what I've read, they are supposed to improve spells. Does that spell you did the test with definitely do elemental damage? I'm only asking as some may have an elemental sounding name but do other damage such as crush.

I can confirm they do NOT increase the damage TOOLTIPS of any of my Wizard or Druid spells.

The actual damage output I have not tested, however.

Yes

Yes winter wind does freeze damage.

I'm not bothering with these at all and just taking implement talents on my wizard.

Blast, Penetrating Blast, Noble weapon focus, dangerous implements, marksman, anything else that helps.

YES!

YES!

Yes as in they do improve the spell damage? Yes as in Winter wind does freeze damage? Or Yes as in you're agreeing with Mungri?

I would also like to know whether the talents affect spell damage output. Cause if they don't I've wasted 4 of Aloth's talents in my infinite idiocy.

OFC they do.

Yeah, I can't imagine what other utility they'd have.  If they're not actually increasing spell damage, it should be reported as a bug.

(IMO, they're a good investment for Druids-- specifically the freeze, shock, and burn variants-- but less so for Wizards.)

As I already mentioned, focus on implements for wizards for blast. Much better.

One of my favorite wizard spells is the level 3 equivilent of melfs minute meteors, and since it swaps its element every time the elements passives would be weak. Also all the good wizard spells are all over with different elements ... Chill fog, fireball, noxious thing.

Alright, so everyone agrees these talents should improve the relevant spells but according to the OP tests, they do not, at least with that 1 spell. Has anyone tried other spells before and after one of those talents. I think IE Mod allows us to add talents so I may try some tests as well.

That's the thing, I was thinking of taking the time one for chill fog ... But then I thought what else is it going to work with? And chill fogs base damage is so low +25% isn't going to do much. I could take fire ... Just for fireball? I don't use fan of flames because chill fog is better. So I took stuff to make my implements better instead for auto attack spamming.

Also other than blast / penetrating blast, I found all the other wizard class talents to be weak compared to taking noble weapon focus / marksman / dangerous implements instead. Or you can even forget all that and just focus on guns instead.

I did a bit of testing on my druid. It took a lot of hits to get above the maximum damage that the tooltip said (and yes I was looking at damage before DR affected it). I did eventually manage it. It seems to me that the maximum and minimum numbers in the tooltips are less likely to occur making it a lot harder to tell if it works. The fact that it doesn't show up in active effects is a but too in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure these worked in the beta, since people were talking about how you should take a bunch of them on the Druid (especially the Cold and Shock ones) since Druid spells are so great.

Unless they broke it since then, they should definitely increase spell damage.

Seems like it works. I'm going over the tooltip's damage on a character with no DRs.

Well at least scion of flame works. Still would be nice to get a dev resopnse, its like what Hatred said kinda hard to test these things.

Does Scion of Flames only work on wizard spells?

Doesn't look like it does anything for any of Durance's priestly fire spells :(

I was running a test party where i had a fire god like paladin with the +50% burn dmg on next attack ability and a fire specialist wizard behind him. ran scion of flames on both not only for the damage but so my paladin could more easily shrug off some of the wizard spells he was inevitably eating from time to time. was pretty cool. Never found enough fire based content in any of the other classes to inspire me to continue it except maybe a druid.

The idea behind these talents is that they increase all and any elemental damage character does. They even seem to work with druid wildstrike for example. But without tooltips it's hard to say.

I want to know if and how they operate between multiple characters. For example, Druid uses fire wildstrike with Scion of Flame while being subjected to chanter's Aefyllath Ues Mith Fyr who also took SoF. How does all that stack, if it does?

I got Lightning talent for my druid and Fire/Frost talents for my Wizard.

They work with spells, and they're overpowered. Basically free +20% damage to all your most important spells, which also helps to get over DR's increasing the effective damage by much more than 20% (sometimes by 100%+).

These talents are one of the things that make the endgame so easy. I mean, Adra Dragon has 40 fire DR? Cool, here comes a 90 damage Fan of Flames. FWWWOSH. 50 damage in your face. And that was a level 1 spell. Imagine the level 5-6 ones.
