ribbed Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Are there any plans to add an option to flee from combat in future updates? Currently there's no way to escape from encounter if enemies turn out to be too strong. You cannot move to another location while in combat, and you cannot end combat until all enemies are dead. It's a fatal flaw for the Trial of Iron mode - you should either defeat all foes or simply die and start over, no other options. In BG and BG2 there was a neat mechanic where you could flee from encounter by distracting enemies with summoned ally or by sacrificing party member or just by simply running away. Enemies could even follow you to new location (e.g. you are fleeing from goblin-infested house and they follow you to a street location), so it was pretty realistic. I think a feature like that should be implemented in PoE, too.
Tigranes Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 You can run away, actually. If you run far enough, combat mode ends. But if you're in a small space that would be difficult. In BG/BG2 enemies actually often didn't follow you, so it became super cheesy, but I agree it would be nice to be able to invest in a talent, say, that aids escaping, and allow escaping across maps. (My guess is that POE can't handle enemies moving across maps at the moment.) 1 Let's Play: Icewind Dale Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Icewind Dale II Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Divinity II (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG1 (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG2 (In Progress)
kat7ra Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Well, you CAN run away. you just need enough disengage deflection and run speed. If your character isn't fast or agile odds are running away from enemies is hard to do. If you run away, enemies will stop following you after a little while, at least in my experience. He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster . . . when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes into you
ribbed Posted April 1, 2015 Author Posted April 1, 2015 Нщг You can run away, actually. If you run far enough, combat mode ends. But if you're in a small space that would be difficult. Well, yes, sometimes you can run away, but if one of your party members is knocked out then you can't end the combat. Yesterday I visited the infamous bear cave with Eder and Aloth, and after they were knocked out (I play on Path of the Damned + Trial of Iron) my main character could not escape the cave. The bears didn't see him, I could freely enter scout mode, but when I tried to go back to the forest, I got "You must gather your party before venturing forth". It feels pretty stupid and illogical. I'm okay with leaving my party members behind, their heroic deeds will be remembered forever and all that, but please let me escape the cave and not be eaten by those scary bears.
Tigranes Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 What should have happened is that if no allies are around, then enemies start beating on your knocked out ally, killing it permanently and ending the combat. (Although I suppose people would have complained to no end about it because OMG I don't want my dudes dying.) 2 Let's Play: Icewind Dale Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Icewind Dale II Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Divinity II (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG1 (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG2 (In Progress)

I'm okay with that, really, but obviously that didn't happen. The bears just stayed there doing their bear stuff and giving funny looks to my knocked out followers.
Viperswhip Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Some creatures run faster than you can, which is nice and thematic but yes, you can get away from other humans and ogres and such.
draek Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 I found out most things run faster than me. My Rogue in padded armor got out ran by an enemy paladin clad in a breastplate.

Have you tried offering the bears a place in your party? Clearly they're more useful than your stupid dead friends. 1

Most enemies are faster than you, yes. I believe they're designed that way so it's easier for monsters to abuse Disengagement attacks. 1

They should have called this game Pillars of Bearternity!
Archaven Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 This is actually a problem. I once quick saved and then suddenly the screen paused and i see red circles. When i reloaded it happened exactly and there's no way to run other than finish the combat or not able to beat it.
