[435] Companion Portraits have been compressed or incorrectly scaled

Question

Posted (edited)

As with the other funny image compression issues in this patch, the companion portraits have either been compressed to 'save space' (could also have been an accident) or fallen victim to Unity's strange UI scaling/mip issues.

As you can see there is a HUGE quality difference between the uncompressed PC portrait, which is loaded from the PNG file external to the game, and the companion portrait stored in the game data files, which has obviously been run through image compression.

This has happened on and off in different beta versions, and it only seems to be a problem for the small version used for the Main HUD / button UI.

Expected Result: Companion portraits, actually any portraits, should NOT be compressed at all.

That is indeed a huge difference. We all want that crisp portrait quality to the far left of the party portraits.

Nice catch, Sensuki! :)

Hmmm that's weird.  The small portraits are 76x96 and the entire portrait window is 90x100, so when you take away the art border thing and stamina bar at 1080 there should be no scaling on the small character art at all.  They literally should show normally because they are being displayed at their actual resolution.

Taking a break and playing the build from home today. Can confirm that at 1920x1200 the image quality for the small portrait is a 1:1 match with the source. However the portrait which draws in the dialogue UI is very blurry. Will file a bug when I get in the office, thanks for reporting this.
