I'm just going to quote this so this typo is immortalized forever. Is it freudian? I don't know, but I like to imagine it is.

Whooops!

So last year was apparently the year of the horse, this year was apparently the year of "Finnish paintball" according to the hosts of the New Year's party I visited. Of course you must understand that this does not mean actual paintball, but firing low-powered fireworks at people for fun and games. Something like this.

Having nearly been blinded by fireworks fired at me, I don't find this concept remotely amusing. :)

Bah, I hate winter, cabin fever is starting to take its toll.  I can't go cycling/running because the streets are frozen solid (not that it would be good for my lungs either), I can't go mountain climbing because of the dramatic avalanche danger right now, I don't want to go for a walk in the dreary frozen wastelands, the shooting range is closed, the archery parcour is closed, I hate skiing/snowboarding and I haven't seen the sun in two and a half months in this frozen completely overcast ****hole.

All I do is work, lift weights and sleep, I feel like an inmate in a high security prison. Its the same crap every year.  getlost.gif

I humbly propose that you weight train until your body fills your house, and you can wear it like the shell of a hermit crab.

You should pick up a relaxing hobby like painting.

Paint the house, THEN wear it.

I still need a big tie and a hat for my house, then I'm good to go.

I used to be a complete nut job in building models but I gave that up because it had gotten really expensive. And relaxing is something I'm really bad at. Edited by Woldan

You should pick up a relaxing hobby like painting gaming.

It's a game forum, so, hey. ;)

...my cousins were always into things like knitting and crochet. Not my thing. I stick to games, cats, and TV. Or just sitting in front of a roaring real-wood fire, when I had a fireplace that wasn't covered by a giant TV.

Used to read a lot, but I find that less enjoyable as I either need reading glasses when I have contact lenses in or need bifocals when I have glasses on (I can read if neither glasses or contacts are on, but then I can't see distance...).

I can't play video games for longer than an hour each day anymore, every time I start playing a game it becomes less enjoyable for me and feels more and more like a boring empty chore. A month ago I bought three AAA games which I haven't even touched yet because I'm not interested.

And I used to be a hardcore gamer, playing 7+ hours each day. IMO thats when games were more interesting than what we have today, technology might be ever moving forward but games nowadays have so little immersion and they all feel the same.
I remember when I was playing the Thief series, I was SO hooked.

Your tastes may have just changed, Woldan. I used to hate shooters and driving games. Now I quite enjoy them, because they are relaxing.

Yeah...I find myself more and more going back to sandbox-y type games. No quest/chr. decisions, no goals except what you set for yourself sandbox-play wise. I find that sort of gaming freedom relaxing. Actually I'm a little worried now that Pillars of Eternity will come out and I'll let it just sit on the "shelf" a long time before getting around to it ...

Same...New Vegas was really the last one I did. I've tried a few since then, but it never lasts for long.

I recommend you give it or something like it a stab. I did last year, and I probably wouldn't be alive if I hadn't.

You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that?

Wearing a house? Or starting a relaxing hobby?

I've only tried the latter, myself, but I'm sure either one will work for you.

Then play the classic Thief games again! You can never get enough of that. Have you completed them on the hardest difficulty?

No, I have to admit I never played on the highest difficulty setting because that means to gather ALL the loot, and it gets tiring quickly to find a tiny little diamond ring on the floor of some random abandoned house in the middle of a undead infested ghost city, for hours. I've never been that hardcore.

Nother thing I have to admit is I cant play those games anymore because I'm spoiled by modern day graphics. Those games are from 1998-2000 and as awesome as they may be, they make me bleed to death through my eyes.  No way around that.

If I had all the money in the world I'd demand some high end studio to remake Thief:The Dark Project, Thief:The Metal Age and Thief:Deadly Shadows with a new up to date engine and leave the rest. I would be in heaven.

That's sad to hear, I never have any problems replaying old games.

Then again, I don't play many new games to begin with, and absolutely not AAA titles.

I have to admit, it's been a bit odd lately. I wouldn't call it seasonal depression or anything, but the combination of holidays that weren't actually a holiday, the blending of days, and visits to mom in the hospital, and the grey and windy weather has me in some skewed frame of mind I can't quite place.

I'm having to make effort to remember which day is which, and I find I'm idling into listening to music, and half-heartedly reading or randomly doodling rather than doing anything of note.
