To go work for Riot Games. Joseph has been working at Obsidian for 8 and a half years starting in August 2005.

He began as a tester and then went on to be a cinematic designer for Alpha Protocol after which he got involved in Encounter/Combat design on Dungeon Siege III and South Park: Stick of Trtuth

We'll miss you Joseph. :(

I remember him from Alpha Protocol, too. I'm actually surprised he hasn't posted since 2011, I remember the name too well.

Good luck to him.

League of Legends developer.
They've drained a lot of top talent from Bioware, too.

I wish I could say I understand why.

You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that?

Last time I checked (but I'm not very into MOBAs) League of Legends is doing really, really well, so it's probably that. I mean, while I wouldn't cry "dooooooooooom", BioWare isn't in the same position as they were after the release of Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins, and Obsidian is still not the safest and stablest of workplace, even though they seem in a better financial position now than they were after North Carolina was canceled.

Maybe hearing Obsidian was going to work on an armored tank game pushed him over the edge. 8)

Yeah, more than 1 1/2 years after they started working on it and he goes to do another online game. Man, he sure must have had problems with it.

Your theory just makes so much sense.....

And great idea to make a jab at another game in a thread about someones departure. Not to mention said jab would also have appeared if Obsidian made a MOBA instead of Armored Warfare.

They are seemingly in a more stable financial position since they have founded the company.

Your humorless defensiveness about this subject makes me wonder -- are you invested with a large sum in Obsidian and/or my.com? ;)

I get that's a joke. It's just a joke that isn't that good (or in this case makes any sense). IMO, of course.

Just as much as he can post it, I can complain about it and point out what's wrong with it. ;)

I was being mostly sarcastic, but based on my (admittedly limited) knowledge of League of Legends, I'm more likely to play candy crush saga. :p

But I know of at least two Mass Effect peeps I'd describe as "key" who left for Riot between ME2 and 3, Christina Norman (me2 lead gameplay designer) and producer Jesse Houston - and I don't really follow these things.

Edit: looks like Jesse Houston's left Riot last month. I wish him good luck, he had one of the better community presences among the Bioware devs (along with Patrick Weekes, I'd say).

It's a joke because of the timing of his departure is around the time of the announcement of the game.

Lighten up.  I doubt Joseph or anyone at Obsidian took offense to the comment.  So I'm not sure why you are.

Because that comment made no sense. And because I got off on the wrong foot.

Som because I'm a nitpicky prick.

That said, I've read more posts that want to enforce Obsidian to do only what they want and go *How dare you make a f2p tank game* than I ever cared to.

Especially because then I turn around and see the enthusiasm Rich and other devs have for this game that just gets handwaved away.

Even if game developers found a cure for cancer gaming fans would still ***** about it.

Most fans of Obsidian are fans likely because of the developers' RPG-centric focus, and in particular because of their interest in certain areas of RPG design, none of which seems to align much with Armored Warfare. I'm happy to see that Rich Taylor and the team are enthusiastic (I'm going to trust C2B on this one because I zoned out after the initial announcement and PR), but I can also understand (and share) the disappointment.

None of this has anything to do with Joseph Bulock's departure as far as I can tell, anyway, so I'll stop here.
