PoE is already heavily in use, by the game that won Gamespot's game of the year for 2013 no less.

I make this suggestion as matter of convenience.  People googling for info about the game will end up with mixed results if FAQs and Fansites and forum discussions adopt the same name as what's already out there for another RPG game.

What game is that? The only one I can think of is Path of Exile which, at least in my opinion isn't going to have any staying power.

I mean you could just call it Pillars or continue calling it PE I suppose. Still at least on these forums I'm not sure there is a need to worry too much about people being confused about which game you mean when you say PoE

K is for Kid, a guy or gal just like you. Don't be in such a hurry to grow up, since there's nothin' a kid can't do.

To me it shall be called Poe forevermore.

I think I have stated this opinion before.

Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.

I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin.

Really?  Because it's already been around and popular for a couple years...

There's lots of stuff in the world using the same acronyms. Causes confusion everywhere, all the time. Such is the limitation of having only 26 letters in the alphabet and many words that people like to use over and over.

I'm sure people who want information on the Obsidian game PoE or the Grinding Gear Games PoE can figure it out...

I'm going to call it Eternity. The 0.185 seconds you lose by not shortening it to PoE really isn't worth that much.

I like this and I think I'll do the same.

Not to mention, I'm still not really grooving on "Pillars" all that much. My brain still wants to see it as Pillows and ... well never mind. Eternity it is! ;)

Uh.... Gamespots game of the year 2013 was Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.  I don't know how you can abbreviate that into PoE.

If you mean Path of Exile I wouldn't really be concerned.  That is hardly a high profile game and no one is going to get Eternity and Exile confused.  This is coming from someone who actually plays Path of Exile too....

Pillows of Eternity? After a long, grueling week at work that sounds utterly fantastic!

I like PoE as abbreviation for "Pillars of Eternity". Would even be a cute easter egg to have an NPC called Poe in the game... :)

Yes I did leave out 2 letters in my opening post.  Path of Exile is actually the PC Game of the Year for 2013.

Seems odd to say it is not high profile when it is averaging 60k concurrent players at the peak time of day.  I certainly won't be referring to this game, that I am very much looking forward to playing, with the same name as something that's been around for over a year.

I'm also not much of a fan of the 'Pillars' part of the name.  I sure hope it's directly related to the main story and a prime location in game that has, lots of pillars or something.

Otherwise it's just a weird name.

Eternity will most likely stay as the moniker I use.

I'm a habitual animal. I'll stick with PE. It's nice and short, and it has already caught on here at the forums. And hey, we can write USA and aren't under any obligation to write USoA, so it certainly is a valid abbreviation. Also, I've been playing PoE (Path of Exile) a bit too, so I personally like to have those abbreviations different from one another.

Pillars of Eternity sounds like an oriental porn flick to me... I guess I'll get used to it eventually.

Who cares?

People who do marketing care. It may seem like it doesn't matter, but it generates brand confusion. You all want Obsidian to make a lot of money. PE is a fine abbreviation.

Yeap, I already said way back when they officially confirmed the previously known but not confirmed fact tha..... .... yeah.... that the name was Pillars of Eternity I would just say "Eternity" instead.  The Pillars make me think of that romance/drama series called Pillars of Earth about building churches in Medieval England and Pillars of Creation that god awful book of pure crap.

Hey now, Path of Exile is a really great action RPG/loot game. Nothing wrong with having more good games around, even if they have the same initials.

Path of Exile is one of the most played games on steam, and that doesn't even include the number of players who are not using the steam client.  To say it has no staying power is pretty funny.

Yeah right, like this could bring some damage to the industry...
