Walsingham Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 On Oct. 22, fighters from the Mozambique National Resistance party, commonly known as Renamo, attacked a police station in Maringue, a city located in central Sofala province, according to Radio Mozambique. Nice to see more people realising that terror is the way to achieve political goals. Bombs, the perfect thing to do once you've run out of things to say. "It wasn't lies. Malcador Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Interesting history of that organization Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra
Cultist Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Terror attacks by rebels in Africa? That's really something unheard about!
Malcador Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Though attacking a police station might just be insurgent type behaviour - they're not attacking helpless people in this instance, though this organization's hit buses and other stuff so. Tale Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 It's kind of worrying. I looked them up and the first thing that came to mind was "please don't let them be CIA trained." Apparently they're not, yay! But only because the state department said no. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."

Apparently they're not, yay! But only because the state department said no. I just got this weird image in my head of the CIA as kid bringing a dangerous animal home and asking: "Can I train it? Pretty please!" 4 I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.
Zoraptor Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I rather suspect that analogy is not far off what actually happens. Probably with more powerpoint presentation involved than the average kid's presentation, but essentially accurate. Be a shame if things get bad in Mozambique again, they and Angola had largely got over their cold war era problems. 1

Be a shame if things get bad in Mozambique again, they and Angola had largely got over their cold war era problems. Mozambique is relatively stable and peaceful, and showing excellent growth too. Angola, on the other hand is being sucked dry by their overlords. Hate to say this but Renamo was created and initially supported by Rhodesian and South African special forces during the 1970s. Both this countries did receive surreptitious help from the CIA. But that was normal and expected as the Cold War was ongoing and the enemy was Communism "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Mozambique may still have a lot of landmines about the place. But last time I was there it was pretty nice. Yes it has been very stable politically and is one of the best destinations for diving and beach holidays in the region. Many South Africans make regular weekend trips there. The people are very friendly, the seafood amazing and it has many unspoilt areas of nature to frequent. The political issues that Renamo are raising are concerning as this type of conflict could destabilize the country and all the good work done so far.
