Rosbjerg Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Old thread here. I've been reading up on the Roman Republic era and one of my professors books on tributary empires, it's not part of my curriculum - but I've always found that era to be particularly interesting. Also thinking about going out again tonight, my buddies are being particularly incitive about it. 1 Fortune favors the bald.
BruceVC Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I'm working on a technology roadmap presentation for one of my large customers tomorrow. The software I support has some really exciting new features coming down in the next release so it should be interesting and relevant for this customer "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Raithe Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Had an early morning doctors appointment. The wheels of the NHS grind steadily..but slowly. It took three weeks from attempting to book it for there to be a slot open. Of course, then I had to set the alarm for earlier then normal and went to bed thinking to myself "you have to get up early" - so I found myself waking up on the hour, every hour from 3am onwards. Then after the GP listens and pokes, she decides she wants me to have an ecg and fasting blood test, so I go to the nurses station to book that..and get told it'll take two weeks before I can have that appointment. Raithe Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 A chemistry friend of mine always said he got best results with a piece of cheese and a box on a stick with string. Or using the line "does this cloth smell of chloroform to you?" He even says that's how he got the lady he ended up marrying. Hm. Realised I've gone through the day without actually checking my email. On the one hand, that's a good sign of not being net-addicted, on the other it could mean I missed anything related to serious work... 1 "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."
Walsingham Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Absolutely crazy day at work today. Just went mental, plus the inevitable ****-ups when the pressure gets above a certain level. Good bit of frowning, swearing, and shouting, but ended with smiles. Going for beers with my team tonight. "It wasn't lies. Malcador Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Can't wait to escape coworkers tonight. I think there's some farewell drinks for a team member leaving next week, too, hmm, annoying. Raithe Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 The weather has definitely turned past summer here. No sunlight, lots of greyness, and its pretty much been pissing it down with rain all day. Also noted I hadn't had anything to eat today. So I went in the kebab shop and picked up a super burger. Which is a rather delightful, if incredibly unhealthy, but tastey collection of just over 3/4 pounds of cooked meat, slathered in assorted sauces, slices of cheese and fresh salad between some oven-toasted baps.. Woldan Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Cycling. It was so cold and rainy I almost froze my balls off. Also when I was pedaling along the Danube river I saw something pretty cool, a huge replica of a wooden Viking ship with colorful round shields and everything slowly swimming down the stream. It was full with drunk and screaming people and several ghetto blasters on board were playing pop songs so loud you could still hear it kilometers away. Getting drunk the creative way, I like it. I gazed at the dead, and for one dark moment I saw a banquet.

Walsingham Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 (edited) His face is that of a dog plotting nefarious deeds. LOL. That is exactly what I was thinking. A chap would be lucky to own that dog. ~EDIT On the subject of my own adventures, amusing incident today when this big fellah mocked two of my colleagues for talking geek, then a whole bunch of us seeming 'normals' chipped in saying we were also geeks. He looked terrified, like we were pod people. Like in that film. Edited September 14, 2013 by Walsingham "It wasn't lies.
