And yet you don't see people pining to be Russian boyars, tsars or commies. They all want to be kings, knights, and Templars. Both for good and for bad. And there's a reason that everyone has English accents to be representative of the upper classes. I mean you could argue that japan, circa 1886, had succeeded better than Russia at "keeping foreign culture out" but were so far behind that they barely understood repeating rifles and proper cannons. And technically Russia was built into a regional power by idolizing the west. Peter the great set up St. Petersburg deliberately as a western city and was constructing an upper level of schools by actively recruiting German, French, Dutch, and British scientists to teach his possible intellectuals how to be properly scientific. At the same time most of the scientific and technological advances came from the west and very slowly trickled east. So, beta patch three looks like it'll be fantastic. But there is an issue with it where there are armies/units that will cause you to ctd if they get into a directly controlled fight. But the radius mod makes things much better, and the 2 turns per year makes things much more rewarding because it keeps your generals and agents around for much much longer. Just imagine Gorod Angelov (google translate) instead of Los Angeles But that is a bit off topic. Never got into the total war games since RTS isn't my kind of action game. Not even with a "historical" flavour. Now I have a sudden craving for Europa Universalis: Rome. “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Calax Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Technically you don't need to RTS anything.... it's just that you can easily win over the AI opponent when the game says you'd lose sometimes. 1 Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.

That's what it is to be married with children.I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin. Tea for the teapot!

He had to leave his own nation, and go to western Europe to find innovation and technology. He didn't exactly have anything to work with in Russia. And he's the one who laid down St. Petersburg in the WESTERN EUROPEAN style because he wanted to be like Western Europe and progress rather than sit in a corner and do nothing. And you know what? Nobody in Russia were as good at integrating Cannon into their armies as the Japanese were during the era. In 1660 Japan was arguably the best and most advanced nation militarily, but because A) they were on the other side of the world and B) the Shogunate just shut down any progress culturally and developmentally, they quickly fell by the way side due to their isolationist tenancies And in 200 AD China was FAR more advanced than Rome in terms of military tactics and administration, but because they would end up isolating themselves and not quite understanding the world around them they fell behind by the time the Qing dynasty rolled around, which led to Mao's rise. Again your wet Eurocentric fantasies. Look at this - this is Petersburg of Peter 1 compare to another typical Russian port and now European cities from this time Obviously Petersburg of Peter 1 have own Russian style of architecture instead of Western European. Let's talk better about European "progressive" culture: How Britt's sell ow wifes as slaves on market even in XIX century. Or about European Witch Hunt's, when millions of European women's are burned due ignorance of society. Also explain why "progressive" European's create such "progressive" social institute as inquisition and why protestants during Reformation religious wars exterminate significant part of Europeans. Calax Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Calax, what's your area of expertise? Due to the fact that my school is pouring money into science and tech and only hitting liberal arts/humanities enough to cover the gen ed requirements? I kinda shotgun the entire history department to get my degree. I've taken upper division courses in everything from the Civil Rights battles in the US to Roman Porn "poetry" involving sending forth "white force into [her] golden locks". And a history of science course that's mostly just a comparison between the East and West parts of Europe (which is where I got a lot of what I've posted here) because the guy who teaches it is a published professor in the field of Russian history. obyknven Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 And it doesn't help that Russia didn't even have a navy or shipbuilding capacity until Peter went and stole from the rest of Europe. How to you imagine that? How can be possible stole tausands of shipbuilders, sailors, navigators, gunners and many other people for creating navy from nothing? And why our historical major known nothing about Moskovy civil fleets in Barents and Caspian seas? Or why you don't known about similarity between older Russian ships and ships of Peter 1? Anyway Peter 1 create own unique technology of shipbuilding. He also designed majority of ships for own fleet and inventi improved false kill construction (this improwment appeared in Europe only after 140 years ). It's not similar to "stolen". Nice try son. Henry VIII of England - executed 84 000 people Elizabeth I of England - executed above 90 000 people Oliver Cromwell - exterminate 80 % of Irish populace Reformation - only on last stage during Thirty Years' War 2 071 000 soldiers and above 6 000 000 civilians are killed, populace of France reduced by 1 000 000, populace of Chzech reduced from 2 000 000 to 700 000, populace of Germany reduced from 17 000 000 to 10 000 000, Meanwhile in Russia most evil Tsar Ivan the Terrible executed 3 000 people.
