Drowsy Emperor Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 (edited) The PlayStation 4 hardware will not include the ability to natively play past PlayStation console retail and digital games, including PlayStation 3 titles.[51][52] Sony is, however, considering emulation or cloud-based streaming as a workaround.[53 What the **** is wrong with these people? There probably won't be a decent PS4 title until well into 2015 and they can't set up an 8 year old console to work with their brand new hardware. When it says that Sony is "considering" it, that means in won't be working up until half the PS4's life cycle if ever. Also, The Last Guardian might be moved to PS4 according to rumors - yet another reason to skip on the PS3. Humanoid Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 (edited) The precedent was set when the second release of the PS3 removed PS2 compatibility from hardware - up until then there was basically a PS2 inside every PS3, which was laudable but in financial terms a ridiculous extravagance. The requirement that Sony put a Cell inside every PS4 to achieve backwards compatibility with the PS3 meant the chances were nil from the very beginning. It's only slightly more rational in engineering terms than duct-taping a full-blown PS3 to every new PS4. Support for PS2 games would depend on whether a modern mid-range PC nowadays could run a PS2 native game acceptably - I have no idea whether that's the case or not, but it's basically what the PS4 would have to do. But one suspects that given the option of either implementing that, or getting customers to pay again for the same game (albeit at whatever the new price will be), Sony will choose the latter. EDIT: Ironically perhaps, it may well be the least engineering effort for Sony to reverse-port the PC port of their PS3 games to get them running on the PS4. Fighter Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 i actually thought that it was a way to avoid having the joker, since the plotline is early batman fighting off 8 assassins and the main villain is black mask, they may not need to use joker at all, sidestepping the mark hamill problem (problem as in, mark hamill wont do the joker voice anymore cause it is too hard on his throat now) Ah. I don't know enough about the Batman happenings for those kinds of details.

Got to say I'm more than a little surprised about the open admission that the online requirement was DRM for the sake of wanting DRM as opposed to the usual drivel. I mean he's basically saying that the RMAH is just a facade for the draconian DRM despite it hurting the game. I half expected the article to say he was a former employee, but looks like that's not the case. Contrast the statement: "Without the auction houses the always-on requirement would stop making sense, and then players would ask for it to be removed, and no one from the business side of things would likely be willing to give that up. So it remains, but at the cost of the game itself," with EA's recent defense: ”Many continue to claim the Always-On function in SimCity is a DRM scheme. It’s not. People still want to argue about it. We can’t be any clearer – it’s not. Period.” Edited April 10, 2013 by Humanoid L I E S T R O N GL I V E W R O N G

This stuff isn't that simple, and it isn't really worth the operational cost to achieve either. At any level, wanna play PS3 or PS2 games, get the console. I came up with Crate 3.0 technology. That article is more about the entire Auction House, not just the Real Money Auction house. I think PA was a bit misleading in how it was presented. There were aspects of how the RMAH hurt things as well, but upon reading the article he talks more about the auction house holistically.

babaganoosh13 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I wonder how this will effect South Park: The Stick of Truth. If you're a console player, it might almost be worth getting it digitally instead of a hard copy if that will be the only real way you would be able to play it on the new systems. More so it seems with the PS4 with the information that is out so far. I just hope it will be compatible still with DirectX 9c. I just want to keep using XP. You see, ever since the whole Doritos Locos Tacos thing, Taco Bell thinks they can do whatever they want.
