Pidesco Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Btw, having to pander to the extreme in the primaries and then move to the center is not unique to the Republicans, Democrats do that too (hence Hillary lost). The party activists who are the most influential are normally more extreme than the party. The difference being that the more extreme Democrat base does not hold, unlike extremist Republicans, completely and utterly insane views. 2 "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian touristI am Dan Quayle of the Romans.I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands.Heja Sverige!!Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend.
Guard Dog Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Clearly I've got a lot of catching up to do on this thread but it is looking more and more like Gorth and Enoch are going to be right on where they go with the upcoming mandatory spending cuts. Taxes go up, modest cuts in the rate of spending increase will be agreed upon (and largely ignored after the fact) and spending will increase which utterly ignores the root of the issue. So we kick the can down the road again until the next time the government hits the debt limit. BTW you all do realize the secession petitions were just a little political protest not an actual movement right? Raithe Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 I like the petition that's currently reading about "Let's abolish the current legal system and establish a Hall of Justice with bike riding police acting as judge, jury and executioner". Last time I checked it had 950 something signatures.. And they say Americans don't see the appeal of Judge Dredd as much as the English do... "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."

PK htiw klaw eriF Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 What's the difference between an extreme Democrat and a regular Democrat? Is it only the far-left who support gun-control and socialism? It depends on what you mean by "socialism". If you mean the government actually existing and being able to spend money, then no. If you mean the government owning everything, then yes. On "gun control" there is a bit of a difference between barring automatic weapons used in warfare from the general populace and the guvernment takin away ur guns, most conservatives don't seem to be able to understand that, seeing as everytime gun control is mentioned, they scream about a conspiracy to steal their guns and destroy 'merica. People are pretty serious about it though, it may yet become a movement, at least in Texas. There's a Huffpost poll that something like 28% of Americans support their state seceeding. People are also serious about Ron Paul and Libertarianism, most still think it is bull**** though. Calax Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 One of the issues with Socialism in america is that it's been used interchangable with the Russian Communism and the USSR. It's obvious that this is the best deal Republicans could have gotten. One could even argue it's a big victory for Republicans. After a decade of attacking the Bush tax cuts as benefitting only the wealthy, the Democrats finally agree to make almost all of them permanent.
