What the title implies. What kinds of characters interest you.

What characters you ran across that are awesome/badass/funny/great/whatever and you'd love if the develoeprs make something similar.

 

So post here.

What are some of your favorite characters. Give the writers ideas and inspirations.

 

Me?

I'd want to see something like King and his 2 bodyguards (Niels and Bohr) from Exiern. They are utterly awesome.

Have recently been reading some Joe Abercrombie. You could do worse than world-weary berserker Logen Nine-Fingers, Scheming, sociopathic Magi Bayaz, hideously deformed torture victim-turned torturer Inquisitor Sand Dan Glokta and his horrible Henchmen, Practical Severard and Practical Frost.

 

I commend all of his stuff to you, decent gritty low-fantasy in the spirit of Fritz Leiber, Glen Cook and Michael Moorc0ck.

I would really, really like it if it's possible to play the PC very much in the theme of either Granny Weatherwax or Sam Vimes. It disappoints me sometimes that the PC's potential personality seems to get so little attention. Yes, I know, they don't want to force it down our throats, but if its one option of four that hardly sounds like forcing. You can have 2 bland options and 2 personality-filled options. They don't have to be the same personality all the time, either--if you're trying for a given personality, that's when you pick the bland ones.

 

I really enjoy all the characters from Girl Genius and would like to see characters in that line.

Lots of TL:DR in what I'm providing.

 

An evil character I made (Natsume) that turned good on a Naruto roleplaying board. There's tons of other character concepts (we loved making character concepts, skill concepts more than we roleplayed xD):

One story method I would like to see is a cutscene event seen from in-doors, a man working with his alchemy casually or evilly, then take you to a screen outside and show the house explode.

Agatha Heterodyne from Girl Genius is awesome and a great example of a good female character. I also like Katara, Korra and Lin Bei Fong from Avatar. An understated comic relief character is always nice and I actually appreciated Alastair's humour in Dragon Age Origins quite a lot, he is based on Xander from Buffy I believe. (Hope I don't get nuked from the heavens for mentioning DA:O)

 

As for villains Loki is cool, I get where he is coming from. My big sister is perfect too... :|

Watchmen.

 

A group of characters finding difficulty to adapt to the society due to their 'super powers'. A lot of interesting conflicts between identity vs social norms can be explored. And then the manner for pursuing just morality for a permanent solution at the cost of indefinite immorality.

 

Don't think there is a need to elaborate since I would simply encourage everyone to read the comics if you haven't done so.

I liked it when James Bond suddenly grew up and wondered WTF all the assassination, one-night stands and generally dicking around was actually for.

 

A character that explores the point of 'The Life' of the archetypical adventuring hired sword might be cool.

I've always liked atoners. Or at least the non-angsty, get-redemption-through-the-painful-deaths-of-your-former-masters type of atoners. Joshua Graham in New Vegas, for example, I found one of the most interesting characters in any game. Some interpretations of the PCs in both KotORs too.

 

And, of course, characters drawing inspiration from any protagonist in any book written by Terry Pratchett. That we should have Rincewinds, Vimeses, Susans and DEATHs goes without saying.

Suikoden has a ton of character concepts and inspiration to be had from. 108 characters per game with re-appearances, but in total I'd guess around 450-500~ collectible characters (all with a short backstory) across all 5 Suikoden games. Which makes me start thinking about the Detective featured character you can get :)

And we're left with having to accept that they're smart by others telling us so, rather than seeing it. This is why I like the protagonists in the Brent Weeks and Patrick Rothfuss books, they know how to do it properly.

Remember: Argue the point, not the person. Remain polite and constructive. Friendly forums have friendly debate. There's no shame in being wrong. If you don't have something to add, don't post for the sake of it. And don't be afraid to post thoughts you are uncertain about, that's what discussion is for.

I tend to enjoy the more intelligent characters. Unfortunately, many writers try and fail to have intelligent characters. And we're left with having to accept that they're smart by others telling us so, rather than seeing it. This is why I like the protagonists in the Brent Weeks and Patrick Rothfuss books, they know how to do it properly.

 

Smart and unwise, too. Yes, this can be a lot of fun. I also get a laugh out of Damien Sandow of WWE fame, he's such a delightfully over-the-top caricature of an intellectual snob.

Probably one the coolest characters I know of.

I think the only Detective I spent time on (across all installments of the series).

 

I'd love to have a Private Detective feature in P:E.

This chick scares me how awesome she is (in Suikoden V) and her insane strategic intellect.

One of the characters that made me come back to the game. Mathiu is awesome too (But I think Shu might take the price).

 

These Strategists are great examples and inspiration for "plotting" and "scheming" characters a la Sherlock Holmes (the more modern one by Robert Downey Jr).

A dwarven Wizard/Cipher companion. Preferably driven completely insane by whispers from beyond, but able to hide that fact almost completely.

 

Also, having an overly pragmatic npc or two, ready to betray their "tool" once they see fit wouldn't hurt.

while those are great to have around as npcs, that's not what I meant at all.

I meant, actually smart. intelligent, sociable, wise. well rounded.

I didn't want people calling me out on the true origins of the character. :p
