NOK222 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Another thread successfully derailed. There are certainly points worth discussing in here somewhere (like the danger of falling victim to the PC police) but this thread is going nowhere fast. How is it derailed? the thread started with the matter of the boob plate and why the developers were cowards to cave in to the rage of some users...now we are still discussing the boob plate, and why do people keep wanting women to look like men in the game, if that is derailement, all threads in this forum get derailed too. I just noticed, this is just a pledge for the mods to close this, yeah I understand the subject is really starting to get a little heated, and there might be something that will be said or has been said that hurt someone feelings, damn I hope they close this soon, can't have someone with their feelings hurt, right? You're use of logical fallacies is impressive. Practical armor for women = women looking like men... 2 Ka-ka-ka-ka-Cocaine!
Rostere Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 That is the thing that is getting me, it isn't even mostly women complaining...its the guy...er...feminest? I just don't think they like womens forms and that is why they want to hide them so badly. It isn't just on armour they are pushing this, I have seen on other sites they want to remove it from art, pictures, etc, not having women showing any skin and covering them up so you are not sure if it is a guy or a girl. I only have seen this group online and thankfully not met one in real life. I have visions of them looking at every women showing off skin and going up to them saying they are being repressed by the man to be dressed up as sluts for evil mens pleasure and they are their to SAVE them from their brainwashing. You still have not understood one iota of what the issue at hand is. The problems are "Boobplate" and overly stylized armour is unpractical and even potentially harmful for the wearer in combat. The sexualization makes no sense. I would have laughed out loud at a female adventurer wearing a "titplate" or otherwise not covering herself properly. There would be no end to the sexual harassment she would face. In too many games, it is simply normal for women to walk around half- naked or with silly armour pieces. Both of these problems are extremely immersion- breaking for me. I don't care one iota about what female gamers or women think, my complaints are all about how I feel about the game. I don't care the slightest about how women dress in real life. To make a comparison, think about a game being made about astronauts. The male astronauts all have normal spacesuits, but the female astronauts have suits with large fake ****. Or a game about the war in Iraq, where the male soldiers look like normal, but the female soldiers have skimpy clothes and tit- shaped body armor. I don't see space suits having plastered- on fake ****. Modern body armour does not come with breast- shaped exterior. And medieval armour was not manufactured in special "pr0n" series for women. Please let this be a SERIOUS game for SERIOUS gamers, not fantasy- themed soft porn for 12- year olds. This is a mature cRPG, not a Hentai dating simulator. I don't want to sacrifice any realism for fan service to basement dwellers who really believe "armor pieces must look that way in order for women to fit inside them". Get out, meet some real women and let Obsidian concentrate on making a serious game. 3 "Well, overkill is my middle name. And my last name. And all of my other names as well!"
teknoman2 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 (edited) let's look at it from another angle. in a medieval setting, armors are designed for use by those who society accepts as warriors... men! women can fight, may fight but it's not the norm and usually that is seen as deviant, so there are no mass produced armors made for women, unless it's a custom job i can understand skintight cloth or leather armor (or even chain mail at most) that reveals some curves, but you just cant have a skintight metal plate armor. Edited October 3, 2012 by teknoman2 The words freedom and liberty, are diminishing the true meaning of the abstract concept they try to explain. The true nature of freedom is such, that the human mind is unable to comprehend it, so we make a cage and name it freedom in order to give a tangible meaning to what we dont understand, just as our ancestors made gods like Thor or Zeus to explain thunder. -Teknoman2- What? You thought it was a quote from some well known wise guy from the past? Stupidity leads to willful ignorance - willful ignorance leads to hope - hope leads to sex - and that is how a new generation of fools is born! We are hardcore role players... When we go to bed with a girl, we roll a D20 to see if we hit the target and a D6 to see how much penetration damage we did. Modern democracy is: the sheep voting for which dog will be the shepherd's right hand.

DocDoomII Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 (edited) I just thought of a way to solve the problem. Armor have to be made un-sexualized, so our side of the argument will be satisfied. For the other side, which likes skimpy stuff, the game can have a tattoo shop where the female characters can get themselves a tattoo of a skimpy plate armor. Or maybe a bodypaint. How's that? Huh? I'm a genius. Edited October 3, 2012 by DocDoomII Do you think Pillars of Eternity doesn't have enough Portraits? Submit your vote in this Poll!

Mind = Blown In all honesty though, rouges and mages can have the option of dressing with cleavage showing robes, or leather clad females that shows their legs. Leave the warriors alone though, Edited October 3, 2012 by NKKKK Ka-ka-ka-ka-Cocaine!
Jasede Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 The game could ship with with a chain-mail bikini for the wife. 1
NOK222 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 The game could ship with with a chain-mail bikini for the wife. You're assuming most of the fan base is married. (I am) Ka-ka-ka-ka-Cocaine!

Badmojo Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Because this happens if you do that: Their isometric sprites. Who cares? Everyone complaining about the 'boob plate'! Maybe not now, but the outrage was great, forcing them to change the design or to lose money :/ Boobs armor worked in our comics and games for years, but now this Feminism equality agenda wants to change everything, I'm telling you guys, this won't work like you are expecting. Funny thing is, I'm pretty sure most of the people complaining are GUYS. That is the thing that is getting me, it isn't even mostly women complaining...its the guy...er...feminest? I just don't think they like womens forms and that is why they want to hide them so badly. Holy crap, I'm losing my patience here. When I started the thread I specifically said that practicality was what mattered to me along with a small concern for some marginal sexism. My issue was with women warriors who wear armor not using it with practicality. Mages and rouges can be more liberal, especially if it fits their characters, but women warriors just no. And the fact that you're trying to pin this on the sexual repression of people who are against stupid armor designs says a lot about you. No one here is trying to be a white knight, get over yourself. I was replying to this: Comparing a purely metagame social implementation of armor rooted in decades-old sexist (yes, I used the word) tradition of titillation for an extremely enclosed nerdy male gamer subculture with little access to the female sex...

Mind = Blown (as NKKKK said) It would have to be quite high on the reward list. It seems like chainmail aprons are quite expensive. http://www.construct...on-up-to-1.65m/ Hygienic apparently!
