I believe I have aleady mentioned that my housemate was tidying the Mojave wasteland long before Old World Blues came out. But now he actually has an excuse for collecting literally every tiny thing he sees.

Now, I thought this was a joke he did when I was around, so I didn't kibbitz him. But I checked. He's working his way around Big MT collecting everything down to the shot glasses. EVERYTHING. Then waddling around at a snail's pace, pot-shotting nightstalkers with whatever POS gun he's found lying about, AND THEN DYING. I saw him do this for over two hours last night.

This surely must be the most annoying and pointless video gaming experience ever. It's also stopping him doing the washing up. And he LOVES doing washing up.

Can someone explain what is going on? And d oso before I am obliged to lock him out of my PC for his own good.

On PC? Open up the cheat console and spawn 1000 mugs at some funny place.

Going with what Lexx said is it possible to mod all the junk out of Big MT so that he has nothing to do?

ROFL.

Well, that would be an option.

I've taken the slightly less extreme option of going into his save and tidying his s*** up. Ammo in the ammo box etc. Misc in the misc boxes. Food in the fridge. The freak has more than 340000 caps! Plus thousands of rounds of ammo, 300 weapon repair kits. 400 wonderglue etc.

Dressed him in the assassin suit, and given him a tasteful and sensible array of weapons from the lockers. 70 rnds apiece. Haircut. Lost the skanky hat. Authority shades.

Basically I got post-apocalyptic Gok Wan on his ass.

If online gaming has taught me anything it is the proper response at someone who is playing differently than I would.

First you should call him "n00b", because he is playing differently. Then call him "nerd", because he is playing computer game after all. Then call him "gay", because, well, frankly I don't know why, but it is crucial to call him gay. Then you should call him "13 year old kid", because only 13 year old kids play computer games. Then you should call him "virgin", which shouldn't surprise anyone since not many 13 year olds have had sex. Lastly you should find his mother and have sex with her.

Roger that. Except as I may have mentioned he's recently had a kid, so calling him a virgin could be either nonsensical or explosively insulting.

I'm an obsessive compulsive mapper. Since Bards Tale and Temple of Apshai I've had this irresistible urge to map out every inch of a level. I still remember the horror that was BG1 when I played it the first time (damn "fog of war") :o

I used to have this thing where if my character lost even 1 hitpoint in combat, I would reload and do the battle over again. In every game.

I'm very happy I got rid of that behaviour.

I do that all the time. I walked around the BG1 maps from side to side, one screen width at a time until all the shroud was gone. It's worse in RTS games where you usually have a minimap staring at your the whole time making it harder to ignore.

He's gone back to being a mong...

Here's a thought: how hard would it be to put some mystic looking chappies in orange robes into the Sink with him? Philosophical arguments as to why what he's doing is wrong?

I'm thinking at the very least we should put in a buddhist talking about the futility of material possessions. One of your German philsophers talking about the value of sensory experience, and maybe mkreku simply urging him to spend the time more productively looking at boobies. Although those last two are really one and the same.

It's a profoundly distyurbing notion. The man has more caps than he can ever usefully spend now. He's certainly got enough glue to repair the Capitol building. What is he doing it FOR?

I mean I'm replaying New Vegas now for perhaps the sixth time. But exploring the moral dilemmas, helping different people, concentrating LESS on the materials side. Am I only annoyed because he's doing the opposite? :ermm:

Pretty easy. The hardest part is writing the dialogue for him.

Hm, I never did replay FONV, uninstalled after beating it, heh. Just lock him out of the PC as you mentioned in the first post, problem solved. :ermm:

I used to do something similar while playing the BG series. If even one character in my party died during a battle I would reload and try again until everyone made it through. I must have fought the Firkragg and Staff of the Magi fights dozens of times before everyone lived.

Well him doing crap in FO:NV is a good trade off then. Also, why is he using YOUR PC ?

Your friend seem to be even more extreme pack rat then me. In Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 3, Oblivion and Morrowind I literally stole / looted everything. But I used saveral places to stash my crap. Safehouses, crates in various strategic locations... and always making sure that local vendor was out of no weight items and gold / caps. Yes, I loot bend tin cans, worthless spoons and forks... all kind of crap. I avoid spoilers so I lie to myself that I can't be sure if those items are nneded or not.

That's complitely opposite what I'm like in real life. I hate having useless crap. I recently moved and it was very much fun to throw away all kinds of (semi)-useless junk. Of course there can be some bad choices to be made. I think I threw away at least 500

That makes perfect sense. Unless you are not talking about party members who were permadead.

Not just chunked players, all player death. Since you didnt get experience if you were face down on the dungeon floor, I was worried that the eventual accumulation of exp loss would cause some party members to fall behind.

Considering how much of a hassle it was to pick up the dead companion's stuff, then hike back to a temple, I did the same.

Thank God for Rod of Resurrection in BG2.

Best item in the game. Even more awesome because it doubled as a wand of heal.

I did that too. Couldn't stand seeing any of that 'black fog' left on my screen. :p
