AFAIK it had an offline guest mode making it more of a one-time activation.

That's right. And you only needed to be online for login and for stupid achievements. It didn't kick you out of the game should your connection fail.

Won't having actual real money, and perhaps not-so inconsiderable sums of it considering how addicted some people are to Diablo, at stake really make so many of the interaction problems of online games much much worse?

 

Hacking, fraud, even more generally obnoxios behavior by some players would seem to be utterly inevitable.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

Ok, that seems potentially hasslesome, but I'll live.

SED (David Hoffman) tweet teases about two projects Square Enix projects announced soon. The article speculates that one of them could be a DSIII DLC but its really too vague a tweet to say anything
