AlQ been busy this festive season. I'm in a pretty sunny mood generally, but I've got a bad feeling about these attempts to precipitate ethnic tensions. It seems like we've totally surrendered the initiative to AlQ et al. and they're making inexorable headway towards all out war.

Here is to hoping that his is an isolated event; although evidence points to the contrary.

Well, there was an attack in Iraq which claimed coptic Christians wre the inspiration. Claimed they were abducting Muslim women. Which sounds laughable, but my experience with many folks from the Mideast is that they'll believe all sorts of mad stuff if it sounds juicy enough. Just look at how much the Protocols sells over there...

Never I believed I could hate someone just because of their faith, but it's happening.

Always someone trying to out-deprave everyone else.

It's the outside world's fault. Killing copts is okay since it is only an egyptian matter.

In Egypt and most other muslim countries, converting to christianity from islam is actually punishable by death.

Many of those Muslim countries have communities of Christians that are older than Islam itself.

I thought it was pretty cool too. Kudos to all of them.

That did very briefly improve my mood. Until I remembered how many muslims 'muslim' terrorists already kill each year. I'm sure nothing would please them more than to off anyone with the guts to act as a human shield and challenge their fascist death cult views.

I'm hoping that this will bring the two communities closer and sort out the extremists. Although they could be sneaky and pretend to care, community leaders supporting acts like this on one hand and turning a blind eye to terrorism on the other. Maybe i'm being cynical though.

I don't think community leaders in a lot of places turn a blind eye to terror. Keep in mind that the jifs enthusiastically murder moderates.

So this one obviously staged digital feel-good show somehow changes everything? From the rampant discrimination with regards to access to civil service Copts face in Egypt to Pakistan's efforts towards getting "blasphemy" to be criminalised worldwide? From cartoon-motivated murder to Turkey's ruling party's efforts to undermine secularism in the country?

 

All of that and so much more, automagically swept under the rug because Mubarak's whelps led a mock unity demonstration. Quaint how "non-partisan" (even if laudably "fighting radical right-wing agenda") media are so taken in by empty words and PR fluff.

 

Ah, my bad. This must be Change.

Nice gesture, even if it might be a bit staged with Mubarak's sons' involvement. But I suppose you have to start somewhere. I assume Hurlshot meant his outlook on manking improved slightly, not that this one thing suddenly solved all the world's ails.
