Raithe Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 So from the hints we've seen so far in trailers.. Jensen is the ex-cop turned Security Specialist, he has some sort of relationship with a female scientist working at Serif Industries.. During an attack on the place she gets killed, he suffers a batch of injuries..and when he wakes up his boss used advanced cybernetics to "save" his life. So he didn't exactly choose to get himself modified the way he ends up.. Guess they're planning on making that whole point key to the personal drama element... "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."
Maria Caliban Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I hope he isn't all that angsty about it. It's hard to feel sad for a guy with a robot arm when the alternative is him spending his life as an amputee. "When is this out. I can't wait to play it so I can talk at length about how bad it is." - Gorgon.
mkreku Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 But.. he will never fap again Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Malcador Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 But.. he will never fap again That's the tragic aspect, duh. Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra

Bu..but he never signed up for any of this, he just wanted to continue his lame non-awesome life. You uncompassionate monster!
cronicler Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 virumor: Oni was indeed a very good game with decent mechanics and a good story. Sure it copied GITS lock, stock and barrel in some places but GITS wasn't such a big cult then. Shame about Bungie thou IG. We kick ass and not even take names.
Majek Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Why shouldn't he be angsty? Those servos probably cost a fortune to maintain and if there's any glitch or failure than he's a cripple anyway. 1.13 killed off Ja2.
Tale Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I hope he isn't all that angsty about it. It's hard to feel sad for a guy with a robot arm when the alternative is him spending his life as an amputee. I don't follow. It could be worse. That doesn't mean it's good. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Malcador Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 It's not ideal, but it's still pretty good as at that point it's binary. Why has elegance found so little following? Tale Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 (edited) It's not ideal, but it's still pretty good as at that point it's binary. That's not how it works. The realist situation being detached from the ideal does not make realist good. Such as a quadrapalegic without the option of robot limbs being "still pretty good" because the alternative is death. Or loved one's dying, but it's still good because not all of them died. They still lost something. Malcador Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 At the point he has no arms, so that sucks yes but getting mechanical prostheses is still a good thing as it's better than the only alternative. Also Caliban's point seemed to be more along the lines of being able to dispense death easily in CQC and punch through walls is kind of a cool thing to have. Tale Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 (edited) Better than the alternative does not mean good. No matter how many times you repeat the claim. He is still missing his real arms. And that is a legitimate cause for bereavement. It could be worse is a asininely meaningless position when it comes to emotion. Yes, the robot arms specifically are cool. Yes, all the stuff he can do with them are bitching. Hell, I'd probably prefer them to regular arms. But I don't tend to give lots of credit to the sensation of touch. Nor do I know the rest of the consequences he may be putting up with. Edited December 10, 2010 by Tale "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Malcador Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 True enough, emotions are a silly thing sometimes, heh, guess looking at it too rationally. Hopefully he doesn't end up whining too much about it though. Why has elegance found so little following? Raithe Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Well to my mind it was more the whole.. he wakes up and it seems that it's a fait accompli. From what we saw it doesn't look like anyone asked him to make the choice..they did it regardless. And so far we haven't a clue on how badly injured he actually was.. thrown through a glass panel doesn't lop off his arms at the shoulders.. His arms might have been salvagable to some degree..but he wakes up and finds they were amputated and replaced with the cyberlimbs.. which while cool in their own right... still , having no-one check his wishes first would be rather..annoying. And dang, I still love that music in the trailer. "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."
Malcador Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 (edited) Fair point, my mistake. So I guess he does have something to be all angsty about, course he could just go with the hate and destroy those that took his arms with those sweet mechanical arms they gave him. It's like irony, man. Edited December 10, 2010 by Malcador Why has elegance found so little following? It's like irony, man. He's not angsty until he finds out the truth behind the attack and the demise of his loved one five bucks that it was engineered by the guys who gave him the arms. Or the opposing corporation. BTW, very transhumanist to use the H+ sign Edited December 11, 2010 by Orogun01 I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.

OUCH!... getting your arms severed by a monorail has to put a damper in your day.. just saying.. TheHarlequin Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 oh I should say.. was poking around the official forums.. while not confirmed word on the street is the devs hinted earlier this may be a stream required game on the PC. Seems all the big PC games are going the way of stream... Guest Slinky Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 25min gameplay part 1 25min gameplay part 2 HDR effects are somewhat overboard in my opinion (like they tend to be in every game that have them) and the through the wall takedown without anyone hearing a thing was a bit cheesy, but overall I liked what I saw!

That's actually a really good point, also on the "so why isn't mech aug clearly inferior to nano aug boo hoo" topic. As in, mech aug is definitely higher maintenance (something brought up by jaime reyes in the first game). You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that? Reapercussions

Jensen seemed to have a lot of augmentations, likely more than the player will have that point.
Morgoth Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 It's a presentation video. Exactly. It represents the game. Game over. Rain makes everything better.
