Fallout: Las Vegas Survivors' Journal

Double posting, how crass, I know.

But I wanted to say...I love the radio music in the game. When I heard "It's a Sin to Tell A Lie" I squealed in delight. The rotating song selection is a little sparse however...it could use a few more. :/

oh, tahnks! I didn't notice any arrows :(

I'm stuck on a quest I really want done, it's in Camp McCarran. something about investigating Legion spies. I talked to that woman in the interrogation room and did the sequence with the prisoner prior to taking the quest, now I'm getting the feeling these are linked, and I broke it... anyway, she gives me a key to the control tower and asks to check it out (at night, I think). I come there at night and nothing happens, the only thing in the room you can interact with is a "talk radio", but when I "e" it, nothing happens...

anyone have any tips?

EDIT: I think I got it, checked the minimap (yes, can you imagine?), it shows a second door, that I can't find. looks like a bug. probably mixed up the portals for the doors or something

You have to be outside at around 1.30-2.00 AM and then go inside.. if you stay inside for the duration the target won't show up.. the quest isn't broken, someone will show up eventually (I spent around 3 ingame days figuring it out with waiting etc :))

yeah, there's a couple of similar characters, they're scripted to approach and start a conversation no matter what, usually they pop up in the middle of a battle :) btw I have 30 caps, anybody saw this undead collector yet?

so, I've entered Vault 3 and now I don't know what to do here, but there seem to be many loose ends, and I can't figure out how to tie them all up.

first the guards mistook me for a Khan and let me walk around freely. I found the Ranger, Anderson, and persuaded him to leave the killing to me. there's also a bunch of slaves who I can set free, they gave me the Overseer's password in return. but do I have to kill every Fiend if I want to set them free? there's also two named NPCs, some David character, who won't speak to me, and the leader. I killed the leader for the helmet and the game informed me, that I failed a quest "raba daba honeymoon", I decided to reload and bought his helmet for 200 caps instead.

so, I guess, the slaves and the ranger were there only to make it possible to finish the quest with a char that doesn't have Speech at 75. but what is this mysterious quest about and where can I get it?

I explored most of the area around Goodsprings all the way up-to Primm, but ran into invisible barriers around some radio station preventing me from crossing a mountain range in order to reach another empty triangle.

I don't mind invisible walls if it seems like it's a map border or something. I found a radio station that seemed nestled in a corner & I just assumed it was a map edge. There are invisible walls outside of that?

After reading the Steam FNV forums, it seems I should be able to do Prim at my lvl...just maybe not by teleporting directly in there to be ambushed. Guess I'll try it. Wish I had more bullets/had material to make more tho. Not using the VATS seems to mean that I go through a lot of bullets. I'm a good sniper, but suck at up close aim. If there's a clustered group it's hard to snipe them all & then I have to resort to running & firing madly until I die. :(

Yeah, there are some borders in the the mountain range around the middle of the southern part of the map.

I went to Primm right after Goodsprings and it was a walk in the park :( the town itself has 5-6 bandits, and they're scattered around so you don't have to deal with more than 2. and then I went up to the second floor via the rollercoaster and cleared the whole building no problem.

Yup,. those invisible walls are a pain.. I'm trying to get to a Ranger Outpost that's right by the Black Mountain ..but for the life of me I can't find a route there... the couple of places that looked possible had the invisible walls stopping you...

Edit:

And then the game crashes, when I reload.. there's no mission marker at that spot.. it looks like its been moved elsewhere.. tres weird.

@sorophx Yea I guess it was just cause I fast traveled into a courtyard & was ambushed by 3 guys. heh After wandering around some more past a train station & prospector camp (armored dude was tough to hit in the head!) I guess I found the 'back way' in, near some big radioactive sludge area. Stood on a cliff & took out a guy on the roller coaster via rifle. :D At least by wandering I have more stuff! I love stuff.

Much as I dislike the VATS system there are some monsters that I have to use it on at the moment because they don't sit still for very effective sniping (flying bugs...).

I've only hit one invisible wall.

I got a quest to retrieve the corpse of a dead soldier (Morales) for his wife. When you carry things, you move at a regular walk, so it took about ten minutes R/L to just carry his body back to McCarren.

Which was the wrong spot. It seems there are a group of troops near his corpse that you give it too. Oops! Now I have to carry the copse back to where I found it.

Edit: Finally got the corpse to the unit, but not before stripping off that fancy ranger armor. I finished up the 'spy' quest, defused the bomb, then headed back for a nice level up. My skills are... all over the place. But, I finally have lockpicks 75. I'm going to head over to Gun Runners and steal/buy upgrades for my service rifle and then try to find someone to fix my radiation suit.

My character can queue 7 shots in VATS with the 9mm pistol and even managed to kill a lone giant radscorpion this way (don't they come in pairs always in FO3?).

I thought about attempting to clear the Powder gang camp, but eventually decided to wait 'til I have a companion and some more resources. It already happened quite a few times that my character's limbs were crippled by invisible explosives around Powder gang camps.

I want to warn anybody, who tries the Chef's quest in Camp McCarran. he will ask you to fix a machine of his and will give a list. I gathered everything and still the game would keep saying I was missing some parts. I ended up using Repair (80 is required), but even after bringing him the word, he didn't seem to acknowledge it. not sure what's wrong, but you might want to skip the whole quest altogether.

Cleared out Primm & then cleared out the old casino and rescued a deputy sheriff. His twangy, laconic voice had me tempted to leave him squatting handcuffed on the floor, but eh, I'm too nice. That was a fun little time, tho. Lots of goons in there. Hard to snipe in close quarters so it was a lot of run & gunning & hiding. And dying. I haven't had this much fun dying a lot, in a while.

I was disappointed I couldn't try a slot machine in the other casino. The wife of Nash was sitting at one, not fair.

There are (working) slot machines in other parts of the game.

The Buffalo was easy for me until the last three guys as they all had high DAM or DT or whatever it is.

Who are you going to pick for sheriff?

Yeah, assuming that you mean "Bison Steve's" (a clear reflection of "Buffalo Bill's" in the real Primm) I could only take down those last few guys laying some mines and drawing them out.

Who are you going to pick for sheriff?

I have no idea. I'm terrible at decisions like that in rpg's. So terrible sometimes I avoid making it at all.

And if you two mean the three guys closest to the sheriff, they didn't strike me as being harder than the others. But I'm not playing on SuperDuper Hard either. When I die it's usually because I'm surprised/caught off guard. I think I have trouble noticing the red lines in the UI because my eyes want to stay on the center of the screen & the compass thingie is so far bottom/left I forget it's there. I'm sure, like in Borderlands, as I get more & more used to things it'll get ever easier. ;)

A few thoughts...

1. I found my house! Only, it's now 'Allied Tech' or something.

2. My first thought on entering Freeside was how ****ty it looked. My second was that if you removed the rubble it wasn't that different from N. Vegas now.

3. I've worked in the Center beside the Old Mormon Fort and was amused it made it into the game but none of the casinos. (Though the Wynn is there as a building you can't enter) I assume it's a legal issue.

Edit: Okay, one more observation. As I wandered Freeside, I noticed two children playing with a dog by chasing after it. I thought, "Aww, what a nice touch. Life is bad, but children still find ways to have fun." Then I realized the children had knives. And then I realized it wasn't a dog but some large, hopping rodant.

Veronica's quest

Option 1: Old quest, I chose something different.

Option 2: Old quest, I destroyed what she's after.

Option 3: RADIATION, lots and lots of radiation. And Glowing Ones.

Does anyone know if there's any real chance of NOT becoming vilified by the Powder Gangers? They fire on you right from the get go & I just thought they were random bandits. I mean, hey, you fire at me, I fire at you, that's the way it works, oh yes. Since they hate me now anyway, I may try wiping them out or something if I can. I wonder if you can PO everyone off and be the Evil Lone Wolf. Probably not, I'll have to choose someone right...

I noticed that the Powder guy hanging out in Goodtown (sorry I'm bad at remembering names) wouldn't talk to me until after I'd become vilified...then I had the option of killing Ringo & 'taking over the town' with the guy....dunno if that's par for course or the offered way to start to regain rep with the Powder dudes if you wanted. I reloaded, I don't want to help him, he's all skeevy & Powder dudes are idiots. ;)

I guess I should take notes when these NPC's jabber at me since I can't even remember what Ringo's deal is. haha.
