In this age, if you know where to look, you can get enough info about a game to know whether you could like it or not. Not 100% accurate, but not even demos are that accurate (see the Fallout : Tactics' one).

In the end they trust a silly review posted by some gamingpages. Plenty of console games don't have demos either and PC demos probably require more work. I like demos, but I can understand why they're not so keen on releasing them anymore. Also, I don't find deciding what to buy a problem, there's a plethora of options other than reviews to base your decision on and I think most people still buy games by the shiny box art and/or a known franchise.
