freeze's up wont go back to full screen and task manager sais not responding

for me alt-tabbing doesnt work too.

On win7 64 bit it doesnt come back from Desktop, have to kill it through taskmanager and start again.

Use performance boosting software to disable all unwanted processes that run in the background, this usually casses bad alt-tabs. I use gamebooster, and my crappy rig can actually alt-tab out of AP with ease. Gamebooster is free, just google it.

Who are you "Michael, Mike, Michael, Mike, Michael darling, mr. Thorton, Michael, Mike, Michael, Mike, Michael darling, agent Thorton, Thorton, Thorton, Thorton, Michael Thorton, etc....."

"Oh the candy dish! That's right - that's where I left my keys" Heck YEAH!!

I can alt-tab from any game or app from the last several years but can't alt-tab back into AP after alt-tabbing out - it just won't maximize on the screen and I have to kill the task.

Windows Ultimate 64

ATI 5850 w/latest drivers

Asus P6T mb

This is teh same problem ME1 had.

The solution for this is, before doing the ALT + TAB combination, you need to go to options menu. Its not required to do anything, just leave the game there. Now press the alt + tab combination.

I just run it in windowed mode

I just run it in windowed mode

Thats a workaround...

Before Alt-Tabbing switch to windowed mode (Alt+Enter), switch to another application, switch back and to fullscreen (Alt+Enter) again.

Works for me.

I can alt-tab out. But getting back in never works.

Alt/Tabbing works fine for me too.

Tigranes, do you also still use Windows XP?

It may be an issue with newer Windows versions?

Is gamebooster usable through steam though?

Not being able to alt-tab is FAIL.

When it works with every other game I've bought. I'm not buying "it's your system" crap. I've got a very high end system.

Alt-tab is extremely unpredictable and is really a blind bet on a game-by-game, system-by-system basis. High end system helps but guarantees nothing.

You were lucky with your other games, while you are not with this one. Others can alt tab just fine with AP. This is the case for most PC games out there.

I have been crappy system, but I have absolutely no problem Alt-tabbing. IN fact, alt-tabbing got me out of a few freezes.

If you want to be safe from alt-tabbing freezes, run the game in windowed mode. Thats what I do.

I couldn't alt-tab either without it crashing(win7 64bit),but that solution worked great,thanks. :p

To be honest I only expect alt tab problems with old games these days. Sadly it's yet another thing pointing at terribly optimised console port.

So that's why Empire: Total War had alt tab problems for a lot of people.... terribly optimised console port.

Oh wait... ;)

I'll give you the issues with TW (not that I play it).

I stand by what I said about AP's alt tab issues being due to its console roots though. Lack of any real eyecandy, designed for a game pad, built for an environment where you don't multi-task (ticking a lot of boxes).
