I don't care for prostitution, drugs, smoking, or abortion; but I do believe in the freedom to choose for yourself. Now... porn, on the other hand, I do support but that's really not the point here. Walsingham
Okay, the problem is not with having porn on your phone is that you usually take your phone with you to public places. I can't be the only person here old enough to remember when porn was mainly found in the wild. Specifically, in hedges. For reasons I was never privy to. "It wasn't lies. Humodour
Didn't know we had so many supporters of porn here Well we do. There's absolutely nothing wrong with legal porn and they've done enough psychology research studies to prove it isn't harmful (indeed can be beneficial) for me to wonder why you'd even make a statement like that. Gorgon
I dunno, I'd buy a phone that could do internet well but there is always some hook with apple that keeps me away. I don't want to be restricted to one provider and I don't want 'apple internet' either, I want internet. Never mind the porn, it's the principle of the thing. Volourn
"Volo@: I don't want other people pushing their "freedom of choice" on public places" Someone's phone is NOT a public place. You shouldn't be looking at other people's phones. Stop spying on others. It's rude. If someone wants porn on phone thhey should have the right to it. Period. I don't know much abotut he iphone but does it allow one to have movies or other stuff it? I wonder if Apple dioesn't mind R Rated movies being on someone's phone? Hmmm... Krookie
I don't know much abotut he iphone but does it allow one to have movies or other stuff it? I wonder if Apple dioesn't mind R Rated movies being on someone's phone? Hmmm... Why? R rated movies and porn are two totally different things. Even R rated movies with sex scenes don't get as...intense as porn.
Volourn
Should that distinction matter? Nudity and sexual scenes are still nudity and sexual scenes whether it's a R Rated 'more main stream' movie ala Crash (or was that rated AO? thoguh even then it probably be just considered a movie) or porn. Afterall, one of the big reasons some people are against porn is because of the nakedness and sensuality of it. The same reason why some people are anti R rated movies or even teen rated movies that skirt the edge of 'adult' behaviours. Still, the point stands, a phone is not 'public property'. It's owned by an individual, and what they have on it should be nobody's business. And, while Apple may have the 'legal' right to try to limit on a product they are selling they most certainly, imo, don't have the moral right to do so. Gorth
porn sensuality Sorry. It just seemed odd using those two words in the same sentence. From what I've observed so far, porn appears more "mechanical" with perhaps some manic/frantic qualities to it. Sensuality wasn't the first thing I would associate it with People hanging around the street watching it on their phones in an "in your face" manner would probably bother me the same way as people playing excessively loud music on the their mp3 players. Not because I don't like music, but I prefer to decide myself what I want to experience. A bit like the old smoker vs non-smoker debate. “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice.” - Albert Einstein

L0L "People hanging around the street watching it on their phones in an "in your face" manner" I have a hard time believing people would actually do that. It's not like people walk down the street reading some smut mag, right? And, no, don't point out the .000000000000000000000001% ofm people who would do that as proof otherwise. Thanks. Solo
I have to agree that if I own the equipment, I should be the one to choose what I put on it. However, maybe the point was that Apple will not have such services to add to the app store. One might be able to look at what ever site and or content as long as they like. The point should be and must be made clear here. Apple can filter all they want on the app store. Just don't filter my phone under my nose. Now if only I knew someone I could ask such a favor to see if one were to use the iPhone to look at porn, would they be blocked? I'm sure as long as one can hook up the phone to their computer and video files can be added I doubt that they could filter out porn. What they can do is stop you from getting it on their site. Right? Solo is not a myth to evil. But a nighmare to the evil of the lands. Ranger Lord Solo
Orogun01
So; Volo, you have never looked at another's person phone/PSP/book while passing by their side? Mobile phones (specially the Iphone) is most used on public places. You simply don't go to the mall and pop out a porn mag. It's Apple's product and they have a vision of what should and shouldn't be used for. So they have every right of dictating what goes into it, much like a newspaper editor may decide that porn really doesn't belong on their paper. Deadly_Nightshade
You simply don't go to the mall and pop out a porn mag. You see to be saying that if there is porn on the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch a large number of people will view it in public, is that correct? If so, what makes you think that this will be the case? Walsingham
The problem, after thinking about it, seems to me to be the way in which the digital age transfers so much of our lives into the hands of a very limited array of commercial entities. In this way a normal rule of commercial life - that a shopowner can do what they like in their own bloody shop - attains a significance unlike that attached to an ordinary comic book store or what have you. I would suggest therefore that by placing Apple in such a position of dominance we are the ones who have caused the problem, not Apple. "It wasn't lies. 213374U
^ Exactly. You mentioned a normal rule of commercial life, but there's also a normal rule of people: they always want to have their cake and eat it, too. I don't think I've ever considered purchase of anything Apple, for many reasons, so it's not like I needed one more. But that's the beauty of supply and demand -- if people really want free unrestricted access to the internet in their phone, someone will provide a solution. Apple can do whatever they well damn please with their products... and I suspect they will do quite well anyway. Still, the main point, is even if I were to take a peek, I seriously doubt people are gonna start loking at porn in a public place in an obvious way. In fact, even people who like porn don't go around broadcasting that fact in public. Why would they start now? Porn is a 'private' thing for obvious reasons. Volourn
Nah. There are plenty of palces where people use their cellphones/iphones. People are simply not gonna look at porn in the middle of the public place for the same reason people don't read nudy magazines in public places. *shrug* DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250. Deadly_Nightshade
Which is exactly my point, the Iphone is mostly used in public. The phone part of the iPhone, maybe. The questionable applications part of the iPhone, I would suspect not. I think the main issue here is that you are making the case that it's wrong to have porn on a phone because it might be used in public while the rest of us, or at least most of us, are saying that if porn was being viewed in public it would be the user's fault and not the porn's.
