June 26, 200916 yr I held out hope until the end, but alas... I wonder why it took so long for official notice to be posted and the forums closed? Is it in development elsewhere now? Oh, well, questions that will remain forever unanswered. ANyway at least there is NV and especially Alpha Protocol to look forward to. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.
June 27, 200916 yr I never really thought this was a good idea for a game, honestly. EDIT: Sorry. Edited June 27, 200916 yr by WILL THE ALMIGHTY "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"
June 27, 200916 yr http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59314 "Developer Obsidian and publisher Sega have officially confirmed that the Aliens RPG project has been canceled. In a post on the company's official forums, noticed by Giant Bomb, Obsidian said that it was "no longer working on the game," adding that Aliens RPG is "no longer a product that is in development." Publisher Sega--which had claimed the project was still in development as of June 15--has issued a brief statement, confirming that the project is altogether canceled. "At this point, Sega has no plans to move forward with the Aliens RPG," said a Sega representative. "We plan to continue working with the Aliens franchise and ask fans to be patient and stay tuned for more information about what SEGA has coming out for the Aliens series of games, starting with the upcoming Alien vs. Predator game." Rebellion's shooter sequel Aliens vs. Predator (PC, 360, PS3) is scheduled for release in early 2010. Gearbox's co-op shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines, also published by Sega, is still in development. " ****!!!!!!!!! J1 Visa Southern California Cleaning
June 27, 200916 yr I hate when they say things like "At this point (...)". I had the hope that SEGA eventually will pick it up even when we know It wasn't being worked on atm. The time-line of tittles was long enough to get this done after AP and some infos were pointing it in that way but sadly It's what it seems this time.

June 27, 200916 yr sadface.jpeg May be due to the change of Sega presidency. But again, a project delayed for this long without development is never meant to be. Edited June 27, 200916 yr by Zoma
June 27, 200916 yr Not happy. Not happy at all. I would much rather have had Crucible than another AvP game. If Sega had asked, that
June 27, 200916 yr Anthony Davis leaks basic outline of what gameplay was going to be like: The game was most certainly NOT a grind fest. Experience was awarded for completing objectives and stealth was greatly encouraged. Basic gameplay was your party was composed of 3 to 4 members. Party members could be from 1 of 4 different professions, marine, agent, engineer, and ugh...I forget the 4th at the moment . In addition to stealth, party members could place traps for Aliens, such as turrets, mines, door bombs, and more. Doors could also be welded or cut to slow down Alien movement and create bottlenecks. There was research, crafting, base defense and much more in the game and working. Such a shame we won't see this game. Hopefully, better features will be recycled in future projects.
June 27, 200916 yr Seriously though, maybe Obsidian could still create an original SciFi RPG in the vein of Aliens Crucible, with all the intact gameplay mechanics and all. Perhaps Bethy as publisher would accept such a (risky) proposal? Rain makes everything better.
June 27, 200916 yr Even Vader and Sidious are upset! Goodbye Aliens RPG! We barely knew thee. "We do not quit playing because we grow old, we grow old because we quit playing." - Oliver Wendell Holmes
June 27, 200916 yr I knew from the beginning that it was a bad idea to make an rpg out of the Aliens franchise. Obsidian should have gone with something more conventional. And I have the same opinion about AP. They should just stick to heroic fantasy, sci-fi (star wars, mass effect-like) and post-apocalyptic rpgs... These are the only things they can do right (and have a higher appeal)... "Ooo, squirrels, Boo! I know I saw them! Quick, throw nuts!" -Minsc "I am a well-known racist in the Realms! Elves? Dwarves? Ha! Kill'em all! Humans rule! -Me Volourn will never grow up, he's like the Black Peter Pan, here to tell you that it might be great to always be a child, but everybody around is gonna hate it.
June 27, 200916 yr Hopefully we will see some leaked screenshots and gameplay videos. I hope not, if the game was great and all I'd rather see all of the Aliens RPG data and media to be put in the same coffin. I can't take another Van Buren or Resident Evil 1.5... I know it's hard but it's time to let it go... Just cry yourself to sleep and the pain will slowly go away, leaving only a sad memory... R.I.P

Seriosuly, I'm proud and happy for Obsidian to make AP or Aliens. It shows that they don't just bow down to the taste of the masses. Rain makes everything better.
June 27, 200916 yr OMFG. I hope SEGA goes down fast after AP is released. "Well, overkill is my middle name. And my last name. And all of my other names as well!"

Improve graphics, downgrade mechanics and gameplay, and it's a guaranteed Slam Dunk. Because when something remotely risky and innovative is attempted, the only possible result is FAIL. All these ppl saying "I know it wouldn't work" in the blogs and fan-bases make me sick. They don't even know how the game was or the real reasons y this game got the cut but They still have a opinion about "how obvious was it".
June 27, 200916 yr Well, I guess its only natural they would cancel a cool RPG and continue developing the FPS in Colonial Marines.
June 27, 200916 yr NOOOOO!!!!!! I have just watched Alien yesterday to get myself ready for the game (which I still hoped would eventually come out seeing how the forums were not closed) This was a great universe to make an RPG in! 2 years of developement thrown to the bin just like that I knew from the beginning that it was a bad idea to make an rpg out of the Aliens franchise. June 27, 200916 yr Lol, you guys keep crying about how cool an Aliens could have been. I am sorry to be taking the role of the "meanie" but there is too much fanboism in your comments. I respect Obsidian as a developer but they haven't done anything outstanding so far. They produced 2 bugged sequels, 2 expansions (one of which is complete crap) and is/was developing 2 totally uninteresting games as rpgs. Aliens is not a setting that could allow the creation of a compelling story for an rpg and the same can be said for AP. From what I have seen so far, these games have nothing to do with Obsidian's know-how. They are trying making games they are unfamiliar with and have no experience as developers. I have long lost faith in that company unless they produce something worthy of their old-school games... Their is nothing in what they are producing so far that may draw my attention... It just doesn't look as the spiritual successor of BIS... Obsidian should just stick to pure rpgs just as they know how to make them. Wanna bet AP will be a failure? I won't even comment on the Fallout 3 expansion which is more of an action/rpg rather than the rpgs we knew under the BIS era... "Ooo, squirrels, Boo! I know I saw them! Quick, throw nuts!" -Minsc "I am a well-known racist in the Realms! Elves? Dwarves? Ha! Kill'em all! June 27, 200916 yr Obsidian should just stick to pure rpgs just as they know how to make them. Wanna bet AP will be a failure? Oh come on. Nobody wants to turn the time back. After SoZ, I really reached a point where I got sick of "good ol' old skool". Obsidian should try to advance the RPG genre, and I think they're doing a fine job with AP there. Hope AP sells millions so that Obsidian can keep experimenting with new stuff. Rain makes everything better.
