My god, wouldn't it be great if this was all just a rumor and the rpg was still on.

 

Only in a perfect world, In that perfect world Activision would of never acquired Blizzard, TES IV was a proper sequel, Obsidian wasn't forced to rush KoTOR 2 or NWN 2, Fallout 3 used Van Buren's storyline and NiGHTS 2 was on any system but the Wii.

I traded my alwins facehugger for a pair of vinyl vulcan ears and a Martin Landau-autographed Space 1999 hand laser. I thought it was a good deal at the time, though.

There used to be a cool hardcore Alien fanforum at GameGossip. One of the forums was called "Biology and Culture" and it was the most popular one...

Can't go wrong with the Space 1999 Laser. Going to look confused with it and the Vulcan ears in an Aliens thread though...

Best of luck to any/all Obsidian folks who may/may not have lost their jobs. You're probably upset and little hurt but remember it's the terrible economy, not anything in your control that likely facilitated this situation.

 

The Obsidian team is very talented and make excellent games, so here's hoping the company weathers the storm of the bad economy and comes out of it better then ever.

That's a little more information. Perhaps not quite canned, but that doesn't bode well for ACM at least.

Sorry to intrude, but the update in LinkedIn was due to me resigning for an opportunity I couldn't refuse at a different company. The timing is just very unfortunate with all the stories and isn't related. I wasn't even thinking about anyone being able to see updates on LinkedIn when I updated the profile otherwise I would have just waited until my start date at the new studio. Doh.

 

I don't know the full story but if anyone at Obsidian is affected, especially people I've interacted with in the past... I wish you the best fortune landing new gigs.

I am most grateful for the passion and interest in this topic. I am also aware that rumours might encourage some opportunities for choices in posting that mean that Mods actually have to do stuff - really rather boring, truth be told

without commenting in any way shape or form about what may or may not be happening with the Aliens project, let me give props to Obsidian for allowing this thread to stay open. i can't think of many companies that would allow its fans to discuss news like this openly & it's to its considerable credit that it does...

Ouch, so okay, one lay-off. Remains to be seen what the extent of the damage is though.

 

Still optimistic that it's not as bad as twenty people or the death of the project (man, does Josh really deserve another baby killed off?) but details may take a couple of days to surface.

At least Bioware is more than capable of putting out good games. As for Bethesda, any company who's modding community has to clean up after them (unofficial patches) is bad in my book. Fallout 3 was fun for a few hours, but it went flat for me soon after.

I for one would have liked a good new Golden Axe game. Sadly Beast Rider seem to concentrate on stuff that wasn't really golden axey IMO and the control scheme was too figidity-wigity so it really wasn't what I was hoping for, but that doesn't mean I don't think they should have tried.

Thought I was simply having a bad dream. T.T

Except they are not. Never were, never will be. Their recycling of same characters and plot moves over and over again for almost a decade doesn't really strike me as a hallmark of a good developer. :horribletruth:

They just posted this up a couple minutes ago. Source says that the Aliens RPG has been cancelled and that Obsidian has laid off 20 workers. No comment from any of the companies involved yet.
