May be they can re-brand it as something else and find another publisher. I'm not surprised, RPG's don't sell that well, too complicated, everyone wants action titles now, Force Unleashed sold almost 6 million.

GAFers seems pretty sure its true and the guy relaying the message seems to be reliable based on the reaction to other posters and a Moderator.

I'm surprised Dragon Age hasn't gotten canceled, I'm sure it would be too slow for the Oblivion fans. Hope DA: O or AP don't get canceled, only two games I'm looking forward to this year.

On the bright side, lets hope the Onyx engine can be salvaged for future projects.

 

On the pesimistic side, lets hope Obsidian gets signed up on more projects or at least have some zots in their reserves to keep the company afloat.

Given that SEGA is doing the "nuh uh, we won't comment either way", I doubt Obsidian is allowed to comment? Still, given the other news that SEGA has been cancelling games and stuff... Doesn't look bright unfortunately.

Pretty much. Kotaku is reliable as a rule, Sega announced they're internalizing development and cutting into R&D. Aliens RPG is not an unlikely candidate for victimizing, sadly.

 

So so sad, should we start the online petition now?

 

No amount of petitioning will make Sega magically regain funds. It wasn't a good year for one of my favourite publishers, and now one of my favourite developers suffers for it.

EA is a much stronger publisher than Sega, and Riccitiello has close ties to Bioware. Those are probably the only things that spared DAO so far, plus it got boobs.
