Well, one thing is for sure. When they announce AvP3 (which should be soonish), they gonna have to answer to the press about the RPG - no escape there.

Perhaps they're gonna doing a ACM-AP-AVP3 press event in the near future? Nahhhhhh.

Funroc will have to tell us whether Aliens is really canned or not, because Sega obviously lacks the PR skills to do so.

I am not sure I understand why Funroc would be the one to tell us?

Regardless, absence of evidence is evidence of absence in this case. If nothing pernicious were happening to the Aliens game, these rumors would have been denied long ago. It may not have gotten outright cancelled, but something negative clearly happened to it - be it 'restructuring', rescheduling, indefinite postponment or outright cancellation.

I believe Morgoth was insinuating that since funcroc is "the man" for gathering info we have to rely on him since Sega is being tight lipped.

So how close to completion was the Aliens RPG game before this.......interruption?

Anyone?

Somehow I doubt it was anywhere near 75%.

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

OK, fair enough - I wasn't aware that funcroc is our info man on CRPGs, but I learn something new every day. :)

Guys, seriously, snap out of it! Enough with the doomsayers! IF the project WAS canceled, you'd probably wake up with this part of the forum disappeared. No need for an Aliens RPG forum when THERE ISN'T AN ALIENS RPG! Secondly, let's start developing a game from a high profile franchise for two years and then just send all our money down the drain. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. It's the recession people! Things are getting done, but they are getting done slooooooooooowly. Sega will have a ****load of cash coming in shortly with the latest installment of the Total War series, all PC RTS fans will just go frigging bananas once that is out, and don't tell me some of you aren't going ape over it RIGHT THIS MINUTE! Thought so. Cash flow for SEGA is imminent, recession is causing slow downs in game development.

I bet Obs is working hard to finish up on AP atm and that is taking a lot of resources and time. We have 1 person layed-off from Obs? How many did EA drop? Let me see now, 1,2 ... A THOUSAND? Seriously? And I know that EA>OE, but it's not 1000 times bigger, seriously! OE is not in trouble, not yet anyways. I've personally got all my friends psyched over AP and can't wait for the final release date. Also, if EA is stalling the release of DA:O by putting it on hold and everyone is cool about it, why can't SEGA do the same with Aliens RPG without people going NOSTRADAMUS WAS RIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!!

Chill out, sit tight, and wait.

Job listing for Aliens had been taken out. Forums probably will wait until Sega gives the official stand for the Aliens franchise which could end up either way.

Its easier to brace for the worst and then to be surprised with positive news than the other way around.

And its believed to be more than just 1 Obsidian being laid off. Rumoured to be 20, that could be either around 1/4 or 1/5 of the total company's employees. Which is alot for an independent company that usually runs at 60 - 100 people.

As for the money coming from their possible successful IPs like Empire: Total War and House of the Dead: Overkill, its very likely the money will be diverted to squeeze more sequels or the said developer's own IP since they had been proven to be a success unlike Obsidian as AP has yet to be released.

So in short, all the doom and gloom is pretty much justified for us. We too are waiting for official word as well but being negative is easier than being optimistic at this point.

Rumoured to be 20.

I rest my case!

It would be extremely ironic if all announced Alien(s)-themed games got eventually canned (which actually wouldn't surprise me one bit). I wonder how it would look like juxtaposed with that proud announcement of acquiring Alien license back in December 2006 (which I remember as if it was yesterday) on their very website.

If I'm an ass, I should say so. If I don't, somebody else will. If I say it first, that disarms them.

Secondly, let's start developing a game from a high profile franchise for two years and then just send all our money down the drain.

It takes more than two years to build an engine from scratch and develop a game, properly anyway.

This is true.

And I think Aliens has sadly been cancelled, else obsidian has some bitter ex-employee's.

That sucks, it's like black isle with Torn all over again :(.

I came up with Crate 3.0 technology.

Crate 4.0 - we shall just have to wait and see.

Any chance that this a publicity stunt? Or maybe just an exaggerated version of the truth? It is now ranked 218 on gamespot which is about 2502 up.

If it's a call for attention sega/obsidian are after it seems to be working... I think... I don't know, I've never tracked a game in the prerelease stage until AP and this.

Maybe, just maybe they put it on hold, and decided to spread those rumors because of what lollers said(publicity). You know guys, just like when celebrity records new album, they start getting divorces, slapping wifes/girlfriends, get caught on crack and slapping their girlfriends/wifes, and then they release a new song " 'been a crackwhore but no more, no hoe" and they got platinum LP in a week.

I still think - and perhaps I'm being too optimistic - that the game is on hold pending the sales on the nearest slate of Sega games. Really could sales could give the company a cash influx that could lead them resuming production on games they've put on hold; bad returns means cancel them in favor of quickly developed easy money-makers.

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

You're not too optimistic, the game is on hold and not canceled. Sega has lost a lot of money, that's the reason why they wait and don't give obsidian money anymore. That seems to be the reason why obsidian laidoff all these people, because they can't pay them anymore. Just think about it.

Don't believe in ****ty rumours or misunderstandings/mininterpretations of people who got laidoff, they have made some wrong conclusions.

Pretty ****ed up that game spot is allowed to jump to conclusions and call the game canceled. What, did Chris kill someone entire family or something? Somehow I get the feeling that the mainstream press hate Obsidian.

Well, OBSIDIAN isn't Bethesda, you know they don't force you to preview their games in luxurious hotel and they aren't sending any "gifts" with review copys, and last but not least OBSIDIAN sucks at hyping their games(read: lying).

No, the guy being hit represents game journalists :p I would never ever hit Chris Avellone on his head. Well, maybe I will one day, when I'm gonna get bored with stalking him and then I'll tie him to a chair and keep him in my basement. But these are only dreams, they're all I have
