- On a new adventure -

really is sad that this game is canned , the small tidbits that they showed were pretty cool

Oh well

I don't trust internet geeks so I don't have a habit of buying stuff online. I've only done so once, and that isn't likely to change any time soon. No Indy game has motivated me to do so either since they tend to be overhyped and overrated (amongst the internet geek crowd). *cough* Spiderweb games *cough*

The Sam and Max episodes and Audiosurf pushed me over, but in general I agree with this.

I guess it's time shops sold Steam-cards as they do some MMO-Subscription things, maybe? Although that would be a far-future perspective.

I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. At least top 5.

Just found this post...

Yeah, yeah. The Age of Empires series made a profit. Seriously, what koolaid is Ensemble, and their fanboys drinking? 10M copies sold. Got backup from Microsoft for all the games. Convinced Microsoft for a go ahead for AoE expansions and sequels.

So.. what was this profit? $5 Million? If Ensemble, AoE, adn their games were so profitable, they'd still be in business. *Someone* would have hired them to develop a game. But, hey, if people want to keep the delusion that Ensemble was a successful company alive, more power to 'em.

Yeah, because in the current climate... making just profit means you keep existing.

You need to make a certain AMOUNT of profit to keep alive.

Oddly enough the only time I've ever gotten my credit info stolen was at a physical store.

hehe, the only time i had my info stolen was when disney's broker was transferring several boxes of stockholder data and one box got "lost" in transit. now i have 3 years of credit protection service paid for by their broker because i am the custodian for one freaking share of stock held by my 5 year old son! :shifty:

comrade taks... just because.

Oh well

tidbits were shown?

I feel a disturbance in the force. It's as though a hundred devs simultaneously facepalmed, and then fell silent bc the nda is still in place.

World of Goo, Puzzle Quest and Eschalon: Book 1 are the only games (that I can remember at least) that I've bought as digital downloads. Oddly enough, all those three games are awesome. Concidence?! I THINK NOT!

Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!

So has this games been canned?!?!?!!?

Although there is no "official confirmation", think about it logically. Under normal circumstances, a company would rush to deny a pernicious rumor such as this one if it were untrue. Neither Sega nor Obsidian have done that. This pretty much confirms that something is going on with the Aliens RPG - be it a cancellation or drastically slowed down development or indefinite postponment (which would likely end in a cancellation anyway).

I feel sorry for Obsidian and also for Sega. It is a tough economy these days. Hopefully, both can last out the recession and let's hope things improve quickly.

Regretfully, with the cancellation (or "indefinite postponment" or something like that) of the Aliens RPG, Obsidian now has no announced games in development that interest me. For some reason, games set in contemporary times, such as Alpha Protocol, don't appeal to me. Rather, I am interested in Fantasy and Sci-Fi CRPGs. I hope there are other projects going on at Obsidian and that these will soon be announced - after all Obsidian and BioWare are my favorite CRPG developers and I would love to see another CRPG of MotB-like quality come out sometime in the relatively near future.

oh wow, I didn't realize the game was in so much trouble! And now it looks like its canceled. Damn, I was really looking forward to this game despite any real information out there. :(

Can't they just cancel that game where Sonic is gonna run around with a sword? How come I know about a stupid Sonic game about Sonic running real fast with a sword, but nearly nothing about an awesome RPG set in the Aliens universe?

Come on Sega, really.

Reps for Obsidian confirmed Kondor was an employee for about a year, but deferred to Sega for comment on the Aliens RPG. As of press time, the Japanese publisher had not issued any new information on the game's status or that of Aliens: Colonial Marines, the first-person shooter in development at Gearbox Software (Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway, Borderlands).

"We will have more news to share about our Aliens franchise games in the near future," a rep for the company told GameSpot when news of the Aliens RPG's suspension first hit. "Sega does not comment on rumors or speculation about its products. ... Please stay tuned for future correspondence regarding our products."

I love you, Sega.

Funroc will destroy you.

Hey now, my mother is huge and don't you forget it. The drunk can't even get off the couch to make herself a vodka drenched sandwich. Octopus suck.

So has this games been canned?!?!?!!? YES OR NO? Will SEGA let us know already?

Another one bites the dust. :(

Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.

You're hurting my feelings.

It's okay, awsomeness, we still have Alpha Protocol. We'll survive.

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

My mistake, is it publisher demands?

Pretty much. Very few developers have the necessary capital to entirely fund and release a project on their own. That's why you see a lot of experimental games on XBLA: small capital investment means a) easier funding and b) less risk overall.

Yeah, but a finger can also be pointed at gamers for this as well, can't it? Sometimes I feel as though consumer expectations won't allow a developer/publisher to put out games that aren't cutting edge in terms of presentation--because that's what's expected nowadays. Heck, I find it amazing just how badly game X can get dinged by reviewers due to not being as pretty as game Y.

Basically, it seems as though developers AND publishers are kind of painted into a corner in terms of how much they have to spend for a product to be competitive.

At the same time, consumer demand is always, always cultivated by the industry. The problem is that it's very difficult to point the finger at a consumer for buying games he likes (where 'likes' is a combination of instinctive 'likes', conditioned 'likes', 'likes' because he/she is not aware of every other game around and picks what he/she knows, etc), and it's also difficult to point at individual devs or publisher institutions and tell them to go against the gravy. If anything, the current state of the industry speaks volumes about just how much impact every person's actions can have on a worldwide industry and culture.

Anyway, yeah, every day without official news makes it sound like a temporary postponement to me. i.e. Stop all or most of the work on it for now, wait & see what happens, hopefully finishing it.

I sincerely hope this game is only postponed. Whenever I think of a game being canceled I think of all the people who put so much time and effort into something no one will ever appreciate. I'm sure it must be much harder for the developers. I wish the guys at obsidian the best of luck and look forward to the release of AP.

Funroc will have to tell us whether Aliens is really canned or not, because Sega obviously lacks the PR skills to do so.

I'd imagine - and maybe I'm wrong - that Sega is going to wait and see how its upcoming slate of games it has coming out (like, oh, Alpha Protocol) before deciding the fate of the Aliens RPG (and any other "on hold" games).

Again could be wrong on that.

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
