"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

I'm sorry sir, but the set to which the elements 'Bioware' and 'Obsidian' belong is not totally ordered.

I don't know, but this is the only game from Obsidian that I can't get myself excited about. For some reason, I like a bit of the fantastic (whether that means fantasy or Science Fiction) in my games.

Well it sure as hell doesn't look realistic. A trailer would help explain what the game actually works like... *COUGH*

I'm not excited about it, but I have faith that it'll be an excellent game.

I think it suffers the same way Planescape: Torment and Deus Ex did. They were quirky. There wasn't anything immediately appealing about them (and in PS:T's case the marketing really didn't help), even though they were epic games once you got into them.

I hope Sega has noticed this, because it does seem an obvious deficit.

Personally, I kind of think that Spy genre at this age isn't exactly a good timing despite the novelty. Fallout for instance was released at the exactly right moment where everyone's curiosity was in the possibilities of an apocalyptic world which piqued many people's interest.

So unfortunately, Alpha Protocol doesn't really pique much interest in me due to what I think is probably being released at a wrong time. At the present I think, everyone's curiosity still remains at Sci-Fi, Utopian worlds or pre-apocalyptic setting. Hence Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo's setting captures many people's interest.

I wonder why Obsidian doesn't work on a super hero setting though. It seems that comic heroes are finding novelty at the present age, both in comics and in cinemas. Why not games?

2 cents. Take my hunch with sacks of salt.

For me, a game without magic and supernatural occurrences is endlessly interesting! If there are real life weapons, and an intelligent story even better! Add to that vast, open maps to explore and an open-ended game design, I'm in heaven. But that's going too far considering this game.

Anyhow, I am sure there are more of us who don't need a dragon in every game.

Amen.

Generally if I've been playing one type of game, I won't want to jump into something too similar, but I think I'll always favour a "real world" modern day setting.

Remember. Not all superheros are mutants, magicians, or aliens.

Yeah, sometimes all they need are wits, a cracking attitude and a bowel disruptor. 8)

I'd have a higher opinion of this game if I got some sort of new info.

That would be a real Christmas miracle.

I don't think that's true. There's a reason 24 became such a huge hit only a few days after 9/11, and why James Bond had such a successful "reboot". There's a reason why "torture porn" horror is in vogue, because it plays to our base fears and impulses, just as zombie movies did with Vietnam in the 60's and 70's and slasher movies did with AIDS in the 80's.

In secret agent stories there's a supremely competent hero protecting (and projecting the might of) the western world wherever it's threatened, before it's threatened, and decisively winning the day. The war on terror has made it abundantly clear that this is no less than a complete fantasy, no less escapist than Star Wars or X-Men.

Not sure if I have anything interesting to add. I'm on the "wait and see" camp, although I enjoy games set in somewhat contemporary timeframes and the spy them is certainly a boon in the face of a market mired in traditional fantasy settings. I'm more interested in playing Metal Gear Solid 4 than I am Dragon Age, for instance. But even moreso than the genre it attempts to fit into, the one thing that drives me to anticipate the game is the team of developers behind it, since they've been responsible for some of my fondest videogame memories.

Opinion will be posted as soon as I've played the game.
