I voted for McCain, and am voting for McCain. I doubt that will surprise anyone.

Damn were screwed

And why would you say that? Anyways, I've already voted for Obama -I'm working as an Election Official so I had to vote via absentee ballot- and think he's the best choice of the two.

Maybe this poll should be open to US citizens only, otherwise people like me will spam it with votes for Obama ;)

Hush... (since I can't vote in the Australian election, I can pretend to vote in the US one) :-

I just need an online connection to one of those voting machines ;)

I haven't actually decided. On the upside, it's because I like both candidates this time, unlike the year I decided Bush and Gore were both lame and threw Nader a vote.

Being in a Union and a teacher, I tend to favor democrats. But McCain has always been a favorite of mine, he's not going to just do what makes the party happy, he'll look for the best solution regardless of the politics.

Everyone says Obama reminds them of JFK. I'm not sure how that's a good thing, JFK made some pretty big mistakes in his first couple years (i.e. Bay of Pigs, Cuban Missile Crisis.) But Obama does have a certain charm and it would be nice to re-establish a positive identity with the rest of the world. I don't blame our domestic problems on Bush, but I do think he's blundered with his world image.

On the other side of the coin, I dislike both VP candidates. You've got plagarising Biden on one end and no sex ed. Palin on the other. Ra Ra.

Obama. He should have chosen hillary as his VP but other than that he'll do every good for america that McCain will mess up.

Good job on making the poll multiple-choice. Yeah, great job.

Anyway, Obama of course. All my American expat friends here are voting for him, which is heartening.

But you should probably expect Obama to win this little poll by a landslide. A similar poll on a generic Australian forum has him ahead of McCain by 36% (at 68%) out of a 300 person sample space.

Similarly, the BBC recently polled 1000 people per country in 22 countries around the world, and Obama won every single one. India was closest, with Obama beating McCain by only a 9% margin there: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/09...m?section=world

I wonder if we should really leave so important a decision to US Citizens, I mean, look at their track record.

I'm not sure how much of that is due to American incompetence or America's ****ed up voting system.

I'm actually kind of inclined to go with the ****ed up voting system, although after 20 years of Reaganesque blind free market obedience on their part, the former is tempting.

I say everyone vote here for fun, then we can have a US only poll later :-

Generally the comments I see on American news sites and YouTube are long the lines of "Another example of the socialist liberal media bias to get Obama elected so that they can push their Muslim agenda of destroying America's freedom-loving citizens!"

If I had a dollar for every time I heard an American accuse somebody of being a socialist or a liberal, I'd be able to single-handedly solve their economic crisis.

It's tradition. In the 60s, 70s, and 80s it was 'what are you, a Communist'. Hell, they even said it of Martin Luther King.

Fierce independence can be a good thing I suppose, although most of the time Americans apply some freakish local ingrown toenail of the concepts of Liberalism and Socialism. They don't know what it actually means in the rest of the world.

Man you should have said that only Americans can vote in this poll because now those utterly evil Eurocommies will do you now what.

Evil Eurocommies? In this day and age when Bush has an approval rating of about 5% worldwide, I don't think it's fair to be so exclusive.

So in future, please use more inclusive 'America vs the World' terminology such as "non-American freedom haters" so that we here in Canada, Australia, South America, etc, can feel more fully like part of the 'evil socialist conspiracy'.

Cheers.

Yeah. The US is the only superpower. I mean, some record, eh? They obviously don't know what they're doing.

And these comments always come from Euro-know-it-alls. Oh well, I guess some things never change.

I voted damn we're screwed because it really doesn't make a difference in foreign policy who is elected.
This is probably the single most intelligent comment in the thread so far. The US prez is the US prez is the US prez. Don't kid yourselves, folks.

Well, you're one too ;)

No one excepts world's only superpower to play completely fair, but somewhere along the line things got really twisted.

Hmm, maybe even as far as 1950's because the great fight against communism is pretty much reason for all non-ethic modern day conflicts. Iran, Iraq, whole South America etc.

And of course Vietnam war.

Still, observing american camp vs USSR camp it's not hard thing to see the "good" guys won.

Gee after reading the comments on this thread it is driven home to me again why Americans are by turns totally indifferent or faintly hostile to the opinions of other nations citizens. A little tip here, the quickest way to get McCain elected is for the news media to keep running stories about how much the rest of the world wants Obama.

Nah. I'm more the Euro-loud-mouthed-ignorant-jerk type. I try my best, though. :p

Empires never play fair. Playing fair is playing to lose, in this case. I guess it's just a matter of comparing and deciding what you like best. A consumerism-based world which essentially depreciates the individual and reduces them to what they can buy, a model that entails that if you can't purchase you're pretty much cannon fodder... or the opposite. The gulags, engineered famines, chronic, integrated ineffectiveness and crimethink.

Yep, for me it's that bleak. Excuse me now, it appears the depression is starting to fight through the medication :)

Indeed. Reading some people's comments, it would appear Jesus is running for prez. Not this time guys.

Good point, and no arguments here. That doesn't make him any less recalcitrant, though...

Ditto. In the In the 143 years of modern (post civi war) American politics there have been only three radical shifts in US foreign policy and only a few more in domestic policy. We don't change course all that often. There will be differences between an Obama administration and a McCain administration but they will be smaller than most of you will believe.
