Deraldin Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) Good Old Games Highlights: Cost $6-10 No DRM (removed if it existed in the first place) Re-download as often as needed Vista & XP Compatibility + Support if it doesn't work Catalog includes games from Codemasters & Interplay at launch. Interview with CD Projekt about GOG.com Thought some of you guys may be interested in this. It's not supposed to launch until September though. Edited July 10, 2008 by Deraldin
Leferd Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 To add on the titles already mentioned, I would like to see: Great Naval Battles of the North Atlantic 1939-1943 Red Storm Rising Tony LaRussa Baseball Earl Weaver Baseball Mechwarrior 2 Wing Commander: Privateer X-Wing/Tie Fighter games Wasteland Lakers vs Celtics and the NBA Playoffs TV Sports Basketball X-Men 2: Fall of the Mutants Nobunaga's Ambition Caveman Games That'd be a good start. Deraldin Posted July 10, 2008 Author Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) The interview mentions that they are certainly hoping they can get some of Lucasarts old games, among them the X-wing/Tie Fighter games and the adventure games. Edited July 10, 2008 by Deraldin

mkreku Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Vista & XP Compatibility + Support if it doesn't work This is what could sell it to me. I know there's DosBox, but it would be awesome to have code that works "out of the box" on newer systems even when it comes to older games. I'd gladly pay for that luxury. Hurlshort Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 (edited) I've been doing this with Gametap for the last month. The games lineup is different, but there are plenty of good classics. The price point is the same. www.gametap.com Just realized the difference is you are paying per game, but you own them. Gametap gives you access to every game for a monthly fee. You can play as many as you'd like (a thousand or so) but once you stop paying the subscription, you are done. Edited July 11, 2008 by Hurlshot
Kelverin Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Sounds great. I already signed up for the beta. Thanks OP J1 Visa Southern California Cleaning
RangerSG Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Championship Manager 01/02 (the best sport's sim ever, IMHO) Civ 2 (easily the best of the series) the 1st 2 X-Coms Interplay's old New World Colonization/Revolutionary War sim...something of the New World (egads, can't remember it right now). Colonization The original Pirates MOO 1 & 2 Sorry, turn based strategy will always trump RTS for fun to me.
random n00b Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Wow, people openly admitting that DRM is just a useless moneysink? And thinking of ways to encourage people to pay for stuff without stepping on their toes? And Wing Commander is mentioned in the same article?! I'm sold.
Humodour Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Hmmm... this might be worth figuring out internet shopping for.
Tigranes Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Fantastic. Definitely something to consider, I might have to work out internet payments after all. Let's Play: Icewind Dale Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Icewind Dale II Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Divinity II (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG1 (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG2 (In Progress)
Tale Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 (edited) Wait, wait, this is an actual purchase service? Awesome, then. If they get a good selection. It sounded like Gametap with the "games-on-demand" thing. Edited July 11, 2008 by Tale "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Hurlshort Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Yep, you pay $5-9 and you get the actual game downloaded, you can even put it on a CD. Gametap is great because you get the entire library for a flat fee. It's given me a chance to play titles and genres I wouldn't necessarily spend money on individually. But if you want to own a game, GOG sounds good.
samm Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Ooh, yassir! That's nice I lost my copy of Fallout, so here comes my chance! Also, I hope they'll have Outcast. And Dungeon Keeper 2. And The Dark Eye 1 with manual. Elite Force 2 would be nice, too, but it might be too new. Hm... *waits in anticipation* Citizen of a country with a racist, hypocritical majority
Shryke Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 ah dungeon keeper 2 i still have my copy floating around somewhere i always found the mistresses kinda amusing. sitting there in the torture chamber torturing eachother when your mind works against you - fight back with substance abuse!
newc0253 Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 do they also sell emulators to run the really old games? dumber than a bag of hammers
SteveThaiBinh Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 That's a good question. It depends how old they go, but if they're looking to get into LucasArts' old adventure catalogue, then DosBox or something like it will be necessary and should be incorporated into the software download so that the game runs with a single click, rather than the old Ultima collection approach of 'Here are the games, and here's a hint sheet that might help you run some of them if you're lucky, now we've got your money so go away.' I would really love to play Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis again, it's years since I had a working copy of that. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." (Nina Kalenkov)
Dark_Raven Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Wasteland would be nice. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
mkreku Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Wasteland is (unfortunately) virtually unplayable nowadays. Not only is it so small (fit on one 5.25" disc!) that all the text in the game is written in a printed hintbook (the game only references paragraphs that you have to find in the book yourself), the graphics and sounds are absolutely eye and ear damaging. They need to remake the game though. And make a sequel! Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Walsingham Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Linky not worky! "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.

Dark_Raven Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Your click is no good Walshy. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
mkreku Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Games that I would love to see and purchase if they made them work on XP: BioForge The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire These are just three examples of games I'd love to play again but which are really difficult to get to work on XP machines without 3DFX cards. They're not quite old enough to run well under DosBox and they are near impossible to run directly under XP.. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
