I'm not defending the absolute tripe that is Alien Ressurection, but I have to say that that's unfair considering Alien and Aliens were all puppets and animatronics to begin with. In fact, the downward spiral started with Alien

How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them.

I would have right away if I could find it.

The acid spitting attack doesn't seem so bad now does it?

Resurrection could have been real good without that hybrid. I can't think of any real flaws in it outside of that and some vague cheese feeling. Maybe it was the delivery, maybe it was the lightning, maybe it was the color scheme, I don't know. Up until the pregnant queen and the hybrid, it was awesome... in theory.

So, I have to blame the director.

"Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."

the hybrid was lame

bringing Ripley back was kinda bleah too

and the less said about Wynona Rider the better....

I remember as a young teen waiting for the video release (wasn't allowed to watch in the cinema), i check out daily our video store. After i seen Aliens "hundred" Times, i was thrilled that there will be a sequel. I read the Alien

Aside the big problem with the permant script rewrites and pressure from FOX, David Fincher did the best he can. And we all know he can better (loved Se7en & Fight Club). For me Alien

and a short note to Alien Resurrection: Jeunet was the right choice to bring a fresh air to the series, but they should let him write the script by himself (as he usually do for the movie). Whedons Action Script had fit better to an action oriented director.

True. You have to align the artistic approaches of the people involved or the result will suffer because they are trying to do different things. Look at Star Trek: Nemesis for an even worse example with a writer trying to do an introspective plot, which the producer and director then insist on shooting as a straight action flick. Result: TNG crashed and burns still... :(

For the record, I actually like Alien 3 better than I like Aliens (but not as much as Alien).

I've never met anyone who agrees with me on this, though.

Now you have.

Alien 3 had a lot of the same things going for it that Alien had. Big, empty, creepy place, an intelligent Alien flitting about playing cat & mouse with the food, and a bunch of people just itching for a chance to stab each other in the back. It's too bad the execution was so incredibly inconsistent. Really, everything from visual effects, to camera work, to characters and the individual scenes vary from fantastic to ridiculously bad. I suspect the waterboy emptied his stash in the crews drinks supply or something.

I didn't mind it - it wasn't great, but that was more a problem of the production aspects of it than the direction, I think. There's a book called Blockbuster: How Hollywood learned to stop worrying and love the summer, that has a good couple of pages on the nightmare that the movie was in terms of filming.

I enjoyed it. It just didn't compare very well to the first two movies.

That summarizes my feelings on the matter too.

I think Alien 3 is the worst of all the Alien franchise films, but it is still a film in the Alien franchise... :x

You know, next year will be the 30th anniversary of Alien. You guys in Obsidz ought to commemorate that somehow.

I was reading this "better late than never" review of Alien and it reminded me of what the first one had that the others didn't quite capture (although I think the third tried) and that was a minimalist aesthetic. It's a lean film. Very little fat on it. Very quiet. One of the things I'm really interested in with this project is how Alex Brandon will approach the score.
