Can we create our own character?

Featured Replies

Has there been any confirmation that we create our own characters? I did a search, and some posts have assumed it. I couldn't find anything official. The reason I'm asking is because Alpha Protocol* looks like it will have a preset main character. I know they're different, but it made me realize I took character creation in this game as a given.

* Not trying to start an argument about that - Just trying to explain why I'm asking.

 You create a character, but it dies at the first encounter. You finish the game with the NPCs.

AFAIK there hasn't been any statment about what kind of character you're going to play or whether you can customize it or what not.

Could have missed something, but it seems that there's not a lot of facts out about this game atm.

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

All right, thank you!

I think the game will be like Torment in that you get given a character, but can customise his traits and skills.

It looks like you get a named young (20 to 30) male spy.

At the very least we ought to get KOTOR-esque facial presets, but the trend in RPGs has been skewing towards customization for the last several years. I don't expect AP to deviate from that trend.

Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't go the Deus Ex route, with the character's given name being a codename and the "real name" (only showing up in texts in-game) being whatever.

Wrong forum and thread

Ah crap.

Wouldn't be much of an RPG if you couldn't create a character. I think that one's pretty much a given.

Na na  na na  na na  ...

greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER.

That is all.

We don't create a character in AP. We are simply given the Developers' character.

Murphy's Law of Computer Gaming: The listed minimum specifications written on the box by the publisher are not the minimum specifications of the game set by the developer.

Not necessarily. You play as Geralt in the Witcher and the Nameless One in Planescape Torment. Both are not only RPGs, but great ones.

There's a big push for games to be more cinematic, and creating your own characters always makes for a headache in VA. Even the games where you can create characters, like Commander Shepard in Mass Effect, or Bishop in R6:V2, need at least two seperate voice actors for every line they have. It's possible that Obsidian will find a similar way to get around it. It's also possible they'll take a simpler option. That's the reason I was asking, and why I still think it's up in the air.

That's not true!

He can't be female and he assumes that he can't make his dudes look like ugly versions of various actors.

And assumptions are facts until explicitly proven otherwise, at which point all such assumptions are rapidly forgotten in the face of a barrage of 'I told you sos'.

In ME, I couldn't make my character a drunken hobo named Captain Sparkles. Absolutely no sense of ownership.

I'm ready, but SEGA/Obsidian is not.

I think people here will be happy with what we are doing. That's all I say for now.

That's actually refreshing to hear.

You know, compared to the reverse "ship ya game now, wenches!" "but SEGA, it's not done!" *whipcrack*

AHHH!! The TEASE! The TORMENT!

When will we get snippets?!

Do you think they'd let us have more details if we did a little dance?

Just for some clarification.

Do you think people will be happy with what you are doing or do you think those here will be happy with what you are doing?

It's an important distinction.

"Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."

Josh is such a tease. :brows: Since the preset character in AP has disappointed me, I certainly hope we can create our own character in this game... and I really, really hope that female PCs are an option!

The Aliens franchise was pretty much the first and still pretty much the only film series to have a good female action protagonist, so i'd hope that Obs would have taken note from this and made female PCs an option if the PC is selectable.
