Pop
Meh. Most of the other devs have been giving pretty good responses. A few cylinder heads, a lot of people who weren't around for Oblivion. Spider
Given that he is an animator, I think only one question was really relevant to his position anyway, and that one was actually somewhat reassuring. 3) What have you drawn on for inspiration in developing Fallout 3? Books, movies, music, etc would be fine, if you don't want to name any games. MSFD makes me watch BAD 50's sci-fi movies - wow everyone's hair was PERFECT back then - except for the crazy old scientists. I do like the old War of the Worlds flick, though. The literary version is the best. Mad Max - how could you not look at that for inspiration? This response and what I've seen from other artists on the project seems to indicate that they are at least trying to get the retro sci-fi style down. Lare Kikkeli
i wonder why so many of them havent played the fallouts. i'd imagine it was the first thing to do when developing a sequel to a series such as fallout
Diogo Ribeiro
Mad Max - how could you not look at that for inspiration? Probably because it doesn't have much to do with Fallout?
Spider
Most of the designers seem to have. It's the artist who haven't been as far as I can tell. Maybe it's not graphically appealing enough for them?
SteveThaiBinh
I wonder what kind of story he was looking for in Kotor2? Oh well, it probably doesn't matter since he's not writing the story for Fallout3. Hopefully someone is. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." Hopefully someone is. This goofball hasn't even played Fallout yet? Surely that's your first port of call, research wise. Mad Max was a welcome mention though. Tigranes
He's an animator, it hardly matters what he says. The only thing that he should really have done is to play the original fallouts - not because the animations HAVE to stay int hat style, but becase the concepts of the game, yes, even for Bethesda, is derivative of the original, is something new founded on the original Fallouts, and that has to be reflected with continuity by animators as wel as everything else. Let's Play: Icewind Dale Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Icewind Dale II Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Divinity II (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG1 (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG2 (In Progress)
Spider
Although he is still only an animator. It's not like he gives out the artist designs or anything. He'll get instructions from above and it's those who need to know what they're doing. I'm not even sure I think the artistic lead needs to have played the old games, the ideas behind it can easily be gained from old concept art and screenshots. It's certainly a bonus, but not a necessity. The only ones I think should definitely have played the old games are the designers.
Tigranes
It's just a way of conceptualising what they want their game to be - even simple things like a visualisation of how a gunshot to the head should animate the exploding cerebrum, because that has a multitude of stylistic variations, and such things can shape the 'feel' of the game - which doesn't encessarily have to be like the old Fallouts, but that kind of thing is why it's a good idea for everyone, or as many people on the team as possible, to begin with a similar set of core references. But you're right, it's not 'make or break'. I think the designers have played the old games, and some enjoy them. *shrug* Let's Play: Icewind Dale Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Icewind Dale II Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Divinity II (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG1 (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG2 (In Progress)

Hopefully someone is. I too am wondering what kind of story he was looking for in K2. I understand disappointment with ending, rush and cuts, but not liking whole story at all? Erm? What kind of story she would've liked, similar to K1? Oh well, she's just animator (or was it he?) How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them. - OverPowered Godzilla (OPG)
kirottu
I agree with Jorian. This Maverique woman is just another proof why Bethesda This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.

Oerwinde
Mad Max - how could you not look at that for inspiration? Probably because it doesn't have much to do with Fallout? Actually I believe Mad Max was a major influence on the Fallout games. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity. Diogo Ribeiro
Actually I believe Mad Max was a major influence on the Fallout games. Yes, but at what point does the major influence is actually reflected in the setting and gameplay? Beside the whole violence angle, the replacement the movies' energy shortages with a global fuel shortage (among other things) and your average social breakdown, where do you go from there? The first Mad Max with its use of special police offers would probably have more of an influence on how Wasteland with its rangers was developed.
