Walsingham Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I just bought 'World war Z' by Max Brooks today, and after 100 pages I can't sleep. Absolutely great book, definitely on a par with John Wyndham, even if it was certainly inspired by him. The research and near future aspects are the most scary bits. Anyone else read t, and if so did anyone hate it? "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
Dark_Raven Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 All I can say is I saw it in the book store. At least I heard of it. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Deraldin Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I haven't read World War Z, but I do have his Zombie Survival Guide. I'll have to look into this.
Walsingham Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 *looks absolutely zonked* Couldn't put book down. So engrossing... Must eat braaaains... NO! Waitaminute. Except for a couple of very minor tweaks this has to be one of the best books I've read in a long whille, and without question the only one in years that I literally couldn't put down. I have now finished it, and heartily recommend it to everybody. Although I should add that I'm utterly fatigued and can barely see straight. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
Tale Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I should buy it while I still have a chance of finding a hardcover. But, I won't be able to read it until I'm done with the Dark Tower after all these years. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Blank Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 (edited) I wouldn't expect a book called "World War Z" to be any good at all. Edited April 20, 2007 by Blank
theslug Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I heard it was an awesome book. Thanks for the feed back, I've been meaning to get a sweet book. There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.
Walsingham Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 I wouldn't expect a book called "World War Z" to be any good at all. It was a gut instinct overriding common sense purchase. But thoroughly borne out. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. LadyCrimson Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Since you read it in four hours or so, I assume it's not a very long book? I see they're making a movie already. :D “Things are as they are. Looking out into the universe at night, we make no comparisons between right and wrong stars, nor between well and badly arranged constellations.” – Alan Watts
Walsingham Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 Since you read it in four hours or so, I assume it's not a very long book? I see they're making a movie already. :D It's about 400 pages. I read fast, and particularly fast when something in written in as digestible a fashion. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Sand Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I might take a look at it, though I probably finish it pretty fast to. 400 pages isn't much in my opinion. It took me only 2 days to read The Stand.
