Fenghuang
In a press release today, Sega pleasantly surprised many RPG fans by announcing it had acquired the rights to the The Black Hound and Baldur's Gate properties. Sega has signed contracts with Obsidian Entertainment, the developer of the acclaimed RPGs such as KotORII and NWNII, the company stated it will develop Baldur's Gate 3: The Black Hound under the supervision of accomplished designer J.E. Sawyer, who was originally the lead designer on The Black Hound before it's cancellation in 2003. The Black Hound is obviously still in a very early stage of pre-production, despite the groundwork already laid for the story and gameplay concepts, enough has happened in the years since it's initial cancellation however, that Josh states "We'll be taking a new look at what can be done to the title to make it as enjoyable as possible, taking full advantage of new technologies." We did ask Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart if he could tell us how the deal came about, and also why Obsidian was interested in the intellectual property given that the title has long been given up on by all but the most rabid fans: The Black Hound is something we've talked about internally for a long time. I'm pretty sure we made the initial approach. I don't remember when. We talked about with Sega at one point, who probably made the initial contact with Interplay. Again, it's something that has been brought up internally, every now and then, for a long time. A lot of us poured a lot of our hearts and souls into The Black Hound back at BIS and were extremely disappointed when it was canceled. More importantly, we think we can make a great role playing experience that lots and lots of people will want to buy. Many gamers have already remarked on the amount of developers that originally worked on The Black Hound now being present within the ranks of Obsidian. Our interest has definitely been aroused, and we've settled in to watch for any news and information that emerges. -Alex Navarro Source ramza will be ecstatic. Tale
At first I thought it a really obscure Gamespot April Fool's joke. Then I realized you were making the joke. In this context, not so obscure. karka
Another joke. This one isn't related to Blizzard, 360-PS3 war, Halo 3, FFXIII at least! This is something. Edited April 2, 2007 by karka
Llyranor
I'm glad we didn't already know JE is making TBH as his own personal NWN2 project (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Fenghuang
I don't know what you people are talking about, read the link. @Llyranor: Maybe he's using the NWN2 mod to prototype stuff that'll go into TBH? Anyhow, I gotta go now, I'll check back in later. RIP

thepixiesrock
But a Kotor 3 one is so predictable. ramza
boring... and as it was said, Sawyer is working on it. I would rather see TBH be made by one man with great ideas in 3 years than seeing it be done in one year by a company that releases rushed and incomplete products... "Ooo, squirrels, Boo!
