Hurlshort Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Hey, is that "The 300 Spartans" movie appropriate for 12 year olds? I'm thinking it might be a decent flick to show at the end of the school year, but it's not rated. Are decapitations and dismemberments appropriate entertainment for 12 year old kiddies? (There was some minor nudity too but "strangely" enough I find it more appropriate for minors than gore and violence...) I'm pretty sure you are thinking of the modern 300. I'm asking about the 1962 movie that Meta mentioned.

I'm asking about the 1962 movie that Meta mentioned. I can't recall any seriously mature themes (apart from corruption ); I saw the end of it a few weeks ago (missed the beginning, damnit, though I have seen it before, many moons ago) and it seemed pretty tame. Why not just watch it first, to be sure? I think it would be perfectly suitable: I'd rate it (at worst) as a Parental Guidance Recommended, and as you are an adult you can certainly explain any mature themes. Diogo Ribeiro Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Corruption is present in youth. Notice what 12 year olds will do for cookies or icecream. That stuff is evil and pollutes their hearts.
metadigital Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 They corrupted me, those youffs. (I got better.) OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
Darth Drabek Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Oh Jesus, I saw the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie last night. I think my brain is still recovering. Now I love the show and its surreal brand of comedy, but I think a full-length movie was a bit much. The first five minutes were fantastic, though. Pure genius, as well as a great way to make sure everyone in the theater knows what to expect for the next 90 minutes. baby, take off your beret everyone's a critic and most people are DJs
Kor Qel Droma Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 You could argue that point about the Borat movie, methinks. Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.
Lord Elden Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 I'm pretty sure you are thinking of the modern 300. I'm asking about the 1962 movie that Meta mentioned. Oh, that one. Well, American films made before 1967 almost never contain gore or nudity. Of course, there might be some mature themes, but I haven't seen that film.

LadyCrimson Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Not a movie, but I've been watching the Planet Earth series on DiscoveryHD. Gorgeous stuff, narrated by Ms "Alien" Weaver. It gives me serious camera gear envy. Videocameras that do 1000 frames per second. Yeah. I want one of those. But I wouldn't want to camp in the desert for 4 months trying to get video of camels, or go swimming with piranhas. “Things are as they are. Pink blood, overacting, everyone smiling all the time, same piece of music plays over and over. I liked it. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.

mkreku Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 I watched Babel this weekend. Decent movie but seriously overrated. It was like I had seen it all before. You know 30 seconds into the movie that something bad is about to happen and then you just sit there and wait for it with an uneasy feeling in your stomach. And tying together several stories in one movie has been done to death already. I should have watched porn instead. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!

Petay Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 I watched The Departed a couple days ago....absolutely fantastic movie, but the end of it confused me a bit, and was mightily sad, and I'm a sucker for good endings. Also a pretty hard movie to keep to grips with whats going on all the way through...
Omelette Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Saw Grindhouse. Great set of movies with hilarious commercials. Ah, Machete. I loved it. Death Proof was a bit slow, though. That was my only complaint. Otherwise, it was a great set of movies.
kumquatq3 Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 The Last King of Scotland. Just watched that too, good flick, felt the doctors performance was underrated. However, while I assumed his character was mostly fictional, it's disappointing to find out it's pretty much all made up. Also saw Blades of Glory, better than I thought it would be. Worth a watch.
metadigital Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 I was under the impression that the Socttish character is not fictional, though it is an amalgam. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
WILL THE ALMIGHTY Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Just watched Matrix 2 and 3. 2 was awesome, 3 had less sense and more BOOM. The ending wasn't too satysfying though.
