Well, that makes it all good then!

I just can't get excited about another FPS game. I will be skipping it.

Hmm.

 

1. I can't take anybody with a lisp seriously, at least not in a productive way. "sexhual organsh"

 

2. Holy God. When I try to run this I'm going to need some of my own special water effects to put out my computer.

Yeah, the guy does try to say "there are a lot of options here on what to do" then either reverts to classic options or just say "plasmids". Doesn't matter though, there are a wealth of existing options made available and the atmosphere is really what will make the game.

 

Was kind of like watching the Witcher promos really.

I watched about half then got bored.  Nothing in there I haven't seen before.  Up to the point I watched it was turrets, security cameras, security bots, patches, hack, run, fight.  Absolutely nothing original.  That was a video aimed at kids who don't realize this has all been done before.

 

True, but even if it is a complete recycle of the ideas used in System Shock 2, i'm still looking forward to this game. In the end, even the old System Shock is still better then most FPS released this days, so why not?

Looks nice, sounds good and the gameplay and design sounds like something in the vein of Deus Ex or System Shock.

 

Me likey, me buy on releasedate.

 

Also, mr. Levine seems enthusiastic about the gameplay and how it will define the FPS-genre for the future. Sadly, this game will probably sell 400-500k and EA will still reply with: "YO! 50-cent: Bulletproof sold 2 million with a significant lower cost in development. Nice try, be-otch!"

Its been done in System Shock 2, Deus Ex, Doom 3, Half Life, Half Life 2, FEAR, Prey, and so forth and so on...

Deus Ex and Doom 3 are about as related as Planescape: Torment and Diablo.

Well, PS:T and Diablo are both CRPGs, one being barely and Deus Ex and Doom 3 are both FPS games, one being barely.

Wait; Hades admits Diablo is a RPG?

 

And I have to say the footage doesn't really impresses me; and gives me more DX:IW shivers than I already had. Let's wait for the actual playable demo...

Yep, Diablo is a RPG. A p[iss poor and crappy RPG but a RPG none the less.

Oh yeah, now that you mention it: they did NOT look like they could benchpress.. anything. In fact, for something that's called a "Big Daddy" I must say they looked extremely unintimidating. They just resemble one of those scuba diving suits from the early twentieth century (which is probably what they aimed for.. kinda).

 

I wish they would at least make the Big Daddy's bigger. With a more powerful stride. I wish they would tower over you and move like unstoppable juggernauts! None of that slow, sedated shuffling down the corridors.

Maybe they're meant to be tough (as in taking damage) rather than physically strong.

If a fight with one of those 4 AP bullet mutated humans took so long they could battle themselves in they seem to be pretty tough but poor damage suppliers

Who knows. They weren't exactly a wonder of game design. They might as well have been the designers vision of a terrifying presence, something which they failed horribly at providing. Big Daddy my ass, just rename the suckers Medium Sized Scuba Diving Gear. Catchy!

You seem surprised by this. I've seen screenshots and concept art for quite a while that depicted the "Big Daddys" as people inside the old deep sea diving suit.

 

As an aside, the fact that they can walk around out of water in them is actually a remarkable feat of strength.

It's true these characters, which may be stylized after early rigid diving suits, do fail to be intimidating when not provoked.

The developer commentary was really bad. Aside from the nasal lispy quality of the voice, the guy kept alluding to some nifty features and then proceede to not demonstrate them.

 

The game itself looks like fun but the gun was annoying.
