metadigital Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 I liked the accuracy of the Total Realism.. but I still found it unbalanced and less fun.. it was even easier to win as the Romans! which was incredibly easy to begin with.. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That because you haven't unlocked the OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
Checkpoint Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 WW I would be interesting on the "west front" in the beginning, before the French counter attack and stalemate. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Germans couldn't have succeeded with the Schlieffen Plan (or, at least, the Moltke-modified incarnation they implemented) and the trenches were inevitable in a time where infantry was the chief ingredient of an army. The only thing interesting about the pre-stalemate war was troops walking along roads. Marching and time tables for trains somehow doesn't equate interesting strategy to me. ^Yes, that is a good observation, Checkpoint. /God
alanschu Posted December 31, 2006 Author Posted December 31, 2006 Victoria: Revolutions has a scenario set up to mimic The Great War. And not too surprisingly, it's a big giant war of attrition in the West, and a War of "We're better trained, better equipped, and just plain better than you" in the East.

But what would have happened if they had not drained units to the east? Or given the Prince units to be agressive with and permission to change his stance. Damn prideful fool was supposed to be the hub. His job was to stand there a be tough! He just couldn't do it! He wanted a piece of teh glory. I am over and over driven by events to conclude that the same personality traits that drive people to wage war make them wage war badly. I like the marching and stuff. That marching and train transport and that stuff is the most interesting part of war! The fighting is just the equivalent of picking the captured pieces off the chess board. :D Caveat: I'm talking war here - not occupation. That's different and much harder. alanschu Posted January 7, 2007 Author Posted January 7, 2007 You need the appropriate research (I'm assuming naval yards), and there's a tech event. I've never actually done it myself (as I'm not far enough into a game yet). I believe the boat you have to build is a Caravel.
Pidesco Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 I finally got this game. Apparently, the AI still has the habit of standing around when being bombarded with arrows. I thought working on the AI was supposed to be one of their priorities. On the plus side the graphics engine seems to be well optimized, and so far the battles have been running rather smoothly. The loading times on the other hand, aren't very fast, but that might just be my Sempron. Enoch Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 I picked this up around the New Year, and I've been having fun with it. The Crusades are neat, I like the Guilds, and the release/ransom/execute decision is a nice touch. The AI hasn't made the kind of improvements from Rome that I was hoping for, but it's still fun to play. Best story so far: Fairly early on in a campaign as England, I had a Princess wandering through HRE territory. She was getting on in years (mid 30s), so I wanted to get her married off before she disappears into a nunnery. I walk her up to Nuremburg, and notice that the city has an unmarried general. She had about a 40% chance of seducing him, so I gave it a shot and won. I try to walk my new son-in-law back to Antwerp, but he gets blocked by an HRE army. I end the turn, and they attack. The new general was able to withdraw safely back towards Nuremburg, and it's my turn again. At this point, I noticed that he had been the only defender in the city when I stole him, and the HRE didn't bother to reinforce the town during its turn. So he and his 30-man escort sacks Nuremburg, killing thousands, and flees south into the Alps. Then, the diplomat I had sitting next to Rome for Papal bribery purposes gives the region to the Pope. I was never able to get that General out of HRE territory, but he somehow lasted long enough to father 2 sons, resist an inquisitor, and take a couple hundred HRE infantrymen down with him. And the HRE still has to deal with a province at the center of its empire held by a foreign power that they don't dare attack.
Gorgon Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 I have 15 turns left and control 38 regions as the English, unfortunately I will not be beating the game because I need Jerusalem which is being held by the Timurids, and whenever I fight them on the battlemap an unspecified crash error occurs, and my armies aren't strong enough to auto battle them. Probably my aging card which hasen't had a driver update in a year and on the verge of being discontinued. Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.

Pidesco Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 I've been searching the org for info on this, and I've discovered that, apparently, people's names for all the factions except the English ones are completely screwed up. One possible name for a French general for example, is "Bureau". Also, there are a few Russian names that are actual swear words. It's kind of hilarious... Tigranes Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Yep. It gets really funny in Poland and Russia and so forth, you can have a guy who's name is pretty much something like Red Hat Sh*tmucker or something. Not to mention, you're not even allowed to have any unique names that are never replicated, every single name youa dd in the game must also be added in the Pool of Names.
