Bokishi
Maybe. I don't know how reliable the inquirer is. If it comes out that early, then it will be like Physx; capable of marvelous things like DX10, but nothing is out yet. Current 3DMark

angshuman
Meh. I'll wait until ATi releases the R600, and nVidia releases its counter (8900?). Actually, after having spent a lot of $$$$ upgrading my current rig, I might pass on this entire generation. I'll likely build a brand new rig 6 months later. SteveThaiBinh
When a new spectacular best card is released, how much would the price cut usually be on the previous spectacular best card? Does it happen immediately, or is there a delay? I'm hoping to buy a Conroe-based or Conroe-ready system in September. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." I don't know if there's a general trend... but I can tell you what happened during the GeForce 6 -> 7 transition. The 6800 Ultra used to be the ultra high-end. When the 7800GTX came out to replace it, nVidia disowned the 6800 Ultra and started phasing it out. However, it was still "selling" at online retailers at exorbitant prices, although I can't understand why anyone would buy it. The 6800GT used to be the little brother of the 6800Ultra, and when the 7800GT was launched, the 6800GT's price was slashed to bring it down to the upper mid-range. IIRC the price cuts actually happened within a couple of weeks of the 7800GT launch.

You can always find the not-so-top-of-the-line hardware to still give you stunning visuals for really great prices if you know where to look. "Of course the people don't want war. mkreku
It will be interesting to compare the next generation of cards. ATI's R600 is supposed to utilize the same tech as seen in the Xbox 360 GPU (unified shaders) and GDDR4. I don't know much about Nvidia's G80, but historically the two companies have always been close in performance so I'm sure Nvidia has some neat tricks up its sleeve. Not so sure it's Nvidia that's going to "pwn" us though. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!

Kaftan Barlast
Meh. My 7900GTX is the same size. But increasing the size of the coolers and cards is bad since there are quite a few motherboards that have stuff in the way making it impossible to use the GFX. To be on the safe side, you have to get a SLI mobo just to be able to fit your single GFX DISCLAIMER: Do not take what I write seriously unless it is clearly and in no uncertain terms, declared by me to be meant in a serious and non-humoristic manner.
