Baley Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Not much. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I necessarily don't like myself, I rather do, it's just that I've got this magnificent cold, I've been coughing like a senile mule for the past hour or so, the world outside is getting colder and colder (as I sit here and contemplate nothing-in-particular-ness), and though that's the kind of thing I'd've prayed to the Lord for a week ago, it's screwing up my metabolism, and frankly, I'm not into all that, not my kind of pain, you know, not my kind of sensation. I don't miss the heatwave, that's for sure. Of course, 7 films in 3 days is hardly a record, I've got no other nerd passions, I don't play video-games, I haven't touched a book in days and, to my great shame, I haven't managed to listen to a single album in 30 or so hours. Obviously, I'm sleep-deprived, as well as linguistically challenged and really really bored.

Diamond Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 (edited) Primer on DVD. Now that I watch it again, it is the only sci-fi movie of recent years that I can call great. As well as it is the only movie that I'm compelled to watch more than once in the same week. Edited September 2, 2006 by Diamond
Deraldin Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 I went and saw Crank earlier today and it's probably the most ADD movie I have ever seen. It was just so over the top it was absolutely rediculous. The cinema that I went to was 3/4 full in the middle of the afternoon with mostly older people who seemed to have a great time. Lots of laughs, intentional or not.
alanschu Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 Crank is one of those movies you don't expect quality when going into, and just expect over the top awesomeness! Or so I assume...still have to see it.
Dark_Raven Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 Star Tek First Contact. My favorite movie with the TNG cast Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.

Although to be honest, I don't think Crank really acknowledges that there is a top to be over in the first place it just that far over it. "
Kor Qel Droma Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 I just finished watching the first Spiderman movie on my new tv. Aside from Batman Begins I can't think of a better live action superhero flick. Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.

Gory and creepy with beautiful picture. Currently halfway through Nightwatch and I am dissapointed. http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/
Rosbjerg Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 Currently halfway through Nightwatch and I am dissapointed. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's a remake of a Danish film "Nattevagten" (same name), which is infinitely better.. they haven't captured the creppy feeling at all, they turn it into a kind of action-thriller which it wasn't supposed to be at all.. true hollywood for you! Fortune favors the bald.

Nightwatch is based on a novel, it is not a remake of another movie. Though I agree, it really is a disappointing movie.

Nightwatch is based on a novel, it is not a remake of another movie. Though I agree, it really is a disappointing movie. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There's more than one film by the name of Nightwatch, padawan, the Dane was talking about this one, while the American (Canadian? Canuck?), well, I don't really know which one he was talking bout, but I reckon it was the Russian flick. The Assassination of Richard Nixon Fact-based story about a disturbed office furniture salesman (Sean Penn) who in 1972 concocted a plot to kill then-President Nixon by hi-jacking a plane to fly over the White House to drop a gas bomb. At the start of the movie, the man is separated from his wife and stressed in his job where he is made the butt of jokes and is an under-performer. Attempts to get his brother's old tire business resurrected with a black partner is rejected by the banks. When he is officially served with divorce papers, everything comes apart and Richard Nixon's broken promises comes to represent all the evils that have come down on him. A news story about a pilot that landed a helicopter on the White House lawn gives him the idea for his attack. Bolting onto a Baltimore plane, he attempts the hi-jacking. Ain't much I'll say on this subject, don't worry, it was really really good, borderline great, almost great, Sean Penn absolutely nailed it, Naomi Watts was okay and Don Cheadle pretty damn good. Of course, the questions one asks himself while watching this are of greater interest to the individual than anything I could ever babble on about, so yeah, go watch it. The direction's fantastic. The script too. Drats. Damn you, Finn. Edited September 3, 2006 by Baley

metadigital Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 The Third Man Plot Summary: An out of work pulp fiction novelist, Holly Martins, arrives in a post war Vienna divided into sectors by the victorious allies, and where a shortage of supplies has lead to a flourishing black market. He arrives at the invitation of an ex-school friend, Harry Lime, who has offered him a job, only to discover that Lime has recently died in a peculiar traffic accident. From talking to Lime's friends and associates Martins soon notices that some of the stories are inconsistent, and determines to discover what really happened to Harry Lime. Beautiful, Robert Krasker was a master cinematographer. Graham Greene has always been the man (and, perhaps, always will be). Orson Welles is incredibly charismatic, the direction, the script, the music, the actors, everything's top notch. Possibly the best film ever made. I need to watch more Carol Reed flicks. Pronto. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Apparently Welles did his famous "cookoo" speech ex tempore. ^_^ What on Earth do you do with yourself? The number of movies you watch is through the roof! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He's trapped in Romania! Without girls! OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT

I thought the idea of vampires being visible only through the reflexion of a mirror was cool. And some effects like the veins in people's faces were very well done. But I ended up sleeping through most of it. http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/

Volourn Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 Yeah. Except for Batman with Micheal Keaton who is the REAL Batman no other is even close. Batman Begins was ok; but wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy overrated. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
Baley Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 (edited) Apparently Welles did his famous "cookoo" speech ex tempore. ^_^ Yeah, it wasn't in the novella. The ending was different as well (Reed insisted on the change). If nothing else, Welles was one charismatic bastard. Sure. He's trapped in Romania! Without girls! I don't need the girl.* * http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088944/quotes Izo Plot Summary: We begin in 1865, when the Shogunate is on its last legs, but still capable of punishing its enemies. One is Izo (Kazuya Nakayama), an assassin in the service of Hanpeida (Ryosuke Miki), a Tosa lord and Imperial supporter. After killing dozens of the Shogun's men, Izo is captured and crucified. Instead of being extinguished, his rage propels him through the space-time continuum to present-day Tokyo, where his finds himself one with the city's homeless. Here Izo transforms himself into a new, improved killing machine, his entire soul still enraged by his treatment in his past life. His response to the powers-that-be, whose predecessors put him to death, is the sword. The first "surreal" film to work (on any level) in a very long time. The first I've seen anyway. The script's the usual pseudo-philosophical drivel, religious and mystical mumbo-jumbo, written in a, shall we say, romantic fashion, and by romantic I mean flowery, trivial, prone to silly metaphors and, obviously, boring, banal and vapid. I'd say it resembled some overtly gothic whore's toilet paper scribbles. Unfortunately, I'd feel all effeminate after mumbling that, oh God, how I wish I was more in touch with my queerly poetic side, perhaps then I could understand the tortured|marred souls that pass for poets these days. Perhaps then I could bridge the gap between the soul and nothingness via frank, brutal anal sex. Anyway, I'm quite certain the whole film's a metaphor for brief (interrupted) homosexual intercourse. Man on Man, if you get my drift. It's all very nice, thanks to Miike, the motherf[--]ker can direct, the acid-folk singer (Representing Izo's subconscious? Bleh.) was good as well. So why then am I (sorta) raving about this film? It's one big clusterf[--]k of violence, sex, bad jokes, bad metaphors, detached acting, decent music, blasphemous behaviour (Izo takes a piss on the head prelates) and most importantly, it makes for a fine Nihlistic viewing experience, until the end where it all descends into metaphors and visual ideas and where one has to accept the fact that this film should never be seen sober or taken seriously. In one word: Hilarious. In five words: Hilarious and very very watchable. Hours go poof while Baley laughs and laughs and laughs. Bis. Encore. Oh, and Bob Sapp plays a bad-ass fighter dude, "this [poopy] is wack, son." (PS: I prefer my gay sex ala Querelle or, you know, bargain bin pornography. Though, admittedly, I'm not the greatest of enthusiasts.) Edited September 3, 2006 by Baley

Dark_Raven Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 Nicholson was perfect as the Joker. He brought that insanity to that character perfectly. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
