Baley Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Not much of a debate thread, more of a know-you-better junk, and I am a little curious where most of you stand. Let's have some fun! I. http://www.okcupid.com/politics More fun, less accurate. II. http://politicalcompass.jpagel.net/ Less fun, more accurate. Print screen + paint + paste + select + copy + paint + paste + save, to get your results. I. You are a Social Liberal (90% permissive) and an... Economic Conservative (65% permissive) You are best described as a: Strong Democrat You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness. II. Your political compassEconomic Left/Right: 2.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.33 Hmm. Quite Obvious.
Blarghagh Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 I'm lower left. (I've done those tests many times before, I don't feel like doing so again). Of course, using the word 'accurate' for a two-axis graphic to measure your moral compass is by default grossly overstated.
Surreptishus Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 (edited) Its political, not necessarily moral. Its also a better representation of political inclinations than discussing only left and right wing politics. Also its interesting to take this test every now again. Ideals change, I think the biggest shift occurs during college. Edited June 17, 2006 by Surreptishus
Blarghagh Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 (edited) Really? I'm going to go to college in a few months, but I feel that I've already had my shift. I used to be a crazy obsessive communist. Now I'm just a crazy obsessive humanitarian. I don't care about the economic side. Edited June 17, 2006 by TrueNeutral

Baley Posted June 17, 2006 Author Posted June 17, 2006 (edited) Do you understand the hidden yet oh so dazzlingly eye-popping comparative meaning behind the adverb "more"? You see there's a certain relation between these two tests and I'm comparing them. The usage of the adverb "more" is relative to the comparison at hand. I know it's hard, but please, try reading my posts before offering your valuable and much cherished criticism. We can still cyber though. I'm a very open-minded individual. And bickering is so last season. Gee. I'm too poor for college. Guess I'll become a trucker. Or a toilet cleaner. Yeah. Life is one big eternal party and I'm the slobbering dork singing Guns'n'Roses tunes while eating a beagle and barfing on the ladies. Well. School's over. Hurray. Edited June 17, 2006 by Baley

The thing about college is that usually a freshman - through meeting loads of new people - will be exposed to many new ideas and experiences that will no doubt shape his/her world view. Then again there is always the possibility that your college experience will only serve to refine and harden your current view.

Then again there is always the possibility that your college experience will only serve to refine and harden your current view. I suppose this is because of a difference in our educational systems. I've already met loads of new people over my school career. I've been part of five different class groups. In fact, when I started my last year of high school, I knew nobody in my classes. I do really believe, though, that most of my shaping happened through the internet, specifically during my time working on the leftwing oriented news site The Noosepaper, which really put a lot of things into perspective for me.

LadyCrimson Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 (edited) Why I don't put much creedence in tests. " OKCupid's test: The other test: I know....let's just say I'm on the center vertical line in the approx. spot below the center horizontal line that both tests indicate and call it even. 2nd edit: I'm assuming the 2nd test puts me farther over to the left side because of some of the crime & social questions - they had more than Cupid's.
