Oerwinde Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 I guess one good thing comes from all that military spending. I think it supplies something like 4-5 million jobs. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.
Atreides Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 All I know is that the US navy hired a swedish attack submarine as their opposing force for their naval training in june last year. They still haven't found it (!), <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That Spreading beauty with my katana.

ShadowPaladin V1.0 Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 If Iran is so eager to go nuclear, then America should oblige. I have to agree with Volourn. Bioware is pretty much dead now. Deals like this kills development studios. 478327[/snapback]

Moose Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Good luck to Iran to be honest. Getting the technology started up and running is one thing. Taking care of it for the next 25 years without having a major industrial accident... well that's quite another. There are none that are right, only strong of opinion. kumquatq3 Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Does that spending include the cost of the Iraq and Afgan wars?
Walsingham Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 SAS better than Delta Force/ SEALS Frankly I suspect that most SAS men would argue they were better in their role as all-round special ops for four reasons: - They have a selection process that looks predominantly at other things than physical strength (without making them weedy) - They see far more, and far more varied action, developing their ability to be creative and versatile - The strategic and operational control of the SAS is far clearer and more professional than Delta and the SEALS, who have suffered in the past from interference from high commanders. - Historically, all US operations have suffered due to all services trying to get a piece of any strategically significant or newsworthy action. But the SAS would also acknowledge that US kit is superior, from boots to rifles to dedicated submarines. Moreover I don't think either side would relish taking on the other, beyond a grim satisfaction that people could then stop asking the same damn question of who is better. ~~~ As for nobodies... I'm not saying anyone doesn't matter. I'm just saying (see the hegemony thread) that someone would be doing it if not for them. So relax and let them have their fun. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
alanschu Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Wow...who would have thought that a larger military force would require more money. In what ways is SAS better than Delta Force? And do they continue their dominance when compared against the Navy Seals? Honest questions, as I'm not sure how you can rate the effectiveness of a special operations unit. I mean, the Navy SEALs have different teams with different capabilities within themselves. If you could provide me with a link so I can look this stuff up, I'd be most grateful! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm not heavily into all the Tom Clancy crap, but Delta Force was modelled on the SAS, and even they themselves recognise the SAS as being superior. I have no idea why you're comparing the SAS to the Navy Seals as they're an entirely different model, but if you're looking for a comparisson I suppose you could look at the SBS. Now those are some tough bastards. As for a link to stuff, try google or wikipedia. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My google and wikipedia findings have the US Army Rangers being trained by the SAS, way back in the day. Delta Force does pick recruits from the Rangers (and Green Berets). And why are the SEALs so different, aside from the fact that their purpose is more directed to missions at/from sea? You suggested I use Wiki for links, and they list the former SEAL Team 6, now called DEVGRU, as the Navy equivalent of Delta Force. I certainly haven't seen any Delta Force admission of the SAS being a superior fighting force. Perhaps you would have more luck if you looked, as you likely have a better idea what you are looking for.
alanschu Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Does that spending include the cost of the Iraq and Afgan wars? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would assume so, as it's military spending within recent years.

the dude Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 I've seen that statistic before, and frankly I find it disgusting...We could at least be putting 10 billion more towards health care and social security. It seems like now, the US has not only the power to anniliate every other country, but even its own freakin' citizens for the sake of making the rich richer and those with power more powerful... words are weightless here on earth because they're free

Jedi_hunter101 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Yeah but you are forgetting that America is at (complety unneccsary and stupid ) war with iraq and terror, and if you ever play a game with economy and war in it you know war is extremley expensive. that is mainly why the US is so much more. Because bush thinks he can annihilate iraq and take all the oil but even with all our bombs and advanced smart guns there still kiking our asses. Not really sure why they are getting so many of our boys in proportion to theres.

LoneWolf16 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 And what, like two grand went to getting our troops the body armor they needed? <_< Where's all that money going to? Dark_Raven Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Canada really doesn't need a military. They can just ask America to help them and we are there. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.

I would also question whether 'they' are really getting so many US troops by comparison with their own. Anyone wants to refute this, please bung into a new thread. EDIT: As for spending on education and healthcare I should point out that the US budgets for those are really much higher than you might think. And regarding Delta Force, last I heard they were specialists in hostage extraction. The SEALS have special responsibility for operations at sea, or from teh sea, like beach surveying.
